telematic update for 07 S550
I have read a few threads regarding a telematic update. I contacted a MBZ dealer and said my car was an 07 S550 and they said there are no updates for the 07 year. Can anyone explain to me more about this update and were to get it installed? Thanks.

Many dealers are ignorant about the update. The update adds real time traffic information to the GPS display (as long as you are in a major city where the sata is available). It also adds a birds-eye alternate view for the GPS map as well as adding the ability to show the estimated time of arrival on the bottom of the map. DVD video can be viewed as long as the vehicle is not in motion.
There is no specific title for the Comand update. The features appear when the Comand system is updated to a later version of software. Only have this done by a dealer who is experienced. All they have to do is connect your vehicle to their Mercedes DAS computer and then select the proper configuration information. If the configuration information is NOT properly entered, several things can go wrong including disabling the air conditioning as well as messing up the rear camera display (assuming you have one). The update could take several hours (possibly a full day) if your vehicle has never been updated. A fair price would be for one hour of labor. After the update is done, real time traffic information will always be displayed as long as the GPS map data is at least version 6, current version is 13. You may have to load the map data after the Comand update to get the traffic feature.
Contrary to what your dealer may tell you, the new features WILL work on all W216 and W221 vehicles.
The real time traffic information for pre-facelift vehicles (2007-2009) is transmitted by FM radio and NO subscription is used to receive it. Facelift vehicles obtain real time traffic information via Sirius satellite radio and require a separate paid subscription to receive the data.

This is exaclty what occured after my upgrade. The AC didn't work afterwards & had to make a return trip for the fix. That took about an hour the next day!! So if you do get this done make sure the AC works & backup camera (if you have that option)!! Good luck.

I have backup camera. My air conditioning is not private AC from the back. All controlled from the front. What are we looking at price wise? Will they also charge the A/C fix/camera fix?

Hopefully they will do the upgrade correctly and the A/C and camera should not be an issue. This issue only occurs if they do not properly set configuration parameters. There should be no additional charge if the dealer makes a configuration mistake.
One of the potential issues with the backup camera is the appearance of two sets of guide lines and the loss of the two parking options. Take a look at the backup camera screen and you will see the two options at the lower right edge of the display before you take your vehicle in for the update. Then look at the backup display after the update and verify the two options are still present.

Cost should not exceed one hour of labor to perform the upgrade. Keep in mind that the upgrade could take an entire day and you may need a loan car.

I called Calstar and the service department never answered back and the bad thing is they are closed on weekends so I do not have anytime to go and talk to them. I'll try House of Imports. Maybe dealers just do not want to do this update.

I just went to Calstar to get a seal for the window switch on my ML. I asked a service consultant for a Telematic update and he said that updates can be done but not telematic updates. Only updates can be like transmission codes, a/c codes, etc. So is this true?
