Reliable S600 for 6 years?
Hey guys, I have been lurking for a few weeks. Recently, I guess an attorney has started a claim against bmw for my X5 diesel, which basically had alot of problems. When that is resolved, one way or the other, I am thinking of upgrading my car, but getting a used S600 keeps the price affordable but gives me a better car.
Any tips on getting a reliable S600? I want to get a low mileage one, with a warranty or aftermarket warranty. Designo if possible, if the leather is better.
Today I called someone about an S65, it was really nice but 109k seems high since I saw one for 70k just a few days ago. I really want to keep the price in the 40's.
I plan on keeping the car for 6-10 years, if I like it. I usually always have a new car, but I would rather just keep something that is comfortable and reliable. I do not drive much, recently less than 300 miles a month.

So you want an S600 with low miles for less than $50k. That is probably doable, but the condition may not be amazing. Service contracts (warranties) on V12 mercedes are VERY expensive, if they are still even offered. In the $8k plus range. IF you include this cost, as well as tax on the purchase into your $50k price, you are under $40k, which will likely not buy you a nice low mile s600.
Reliable...well, maybe. Luck of the draw with the engines and suspension components, as well as all the electronic trickery.

2007 S 600 / '06 911 Porsche C4S cab
As the Mercedes flagship, the S 600 is very solid mechanically. My '07 is still under factory warranty ( till oct. '14) , after which I anticipate very little problems. It has 55,000mi. (actually 90,000kms -- we're in Canada).
Thing is I'm selling it for $40k since I plan on buying a Porsche 911. Whoever winds up buying it will get a showroom condition car, that looks and runs as good as the day it sold for $180k.
