Installed Kuda Phone/Media Player Mount

This is a custom vehicle specific mount in black leather. It can be spray-dyed for other interior colors. It has a flat face for mounting a device cradle, however I just glued my Ipod's rubber case to it for a flush mount. It required some minor dash surgery.

Remove the fuse box panels at each end of the dash. (Pry open with a flathead and then pull to release clips. Pull panel rearward and out.)

Remove the black trim retaining screws at each end of the trim piece. #20 Torx bit.

Pry up the vent grille (below the COMAND screen)

Remove the center trim retaining screw under the vent grille.

Working from the end of the trim on thepassenger side, pull the trim piece away from the dash and toward you. You don't need to remove the piece, just get some clearance near the middle.

Yeah, they're sheepskin seat inserts. One size fits all. $90 for the front pair. Installs in seconds. http://www.comfysheep.com/custom-she...at-insert.html Saves wear on the seat and always the right temperature. Heat still comes through fine but they do seem to cut back the cooling function quite a bit.

Not really. They've been pretty maintenance free. I just vacuum them once in awhile. Are you training to be a physician?

Mike--by surgery, do you mean that trim needed to be moved out of the way to install the mount? Or, are there any trimming/cutting/alteration required on the car?

Is the mount secured to the car by screws? Also, regarding the flat surface of the mount--is it a material where one would sink screws into in order to secure a phone holder (I realize you glued yours).

Thank you.

More questions--

Do you find that the Kuda places the phone just a bit too far from the driver for a comfortable reach?

I came upon this:
http://www.gtacarkits.com/product/me...-phone-holder/

Not nearly as elegantly finished as Kuda and I'm not wild about the actual holder, but the bracket places the phone closer to the driver. The other concern with this bracket is that it may interfere with the passenger's knee/leg.

Yeah, the Kuda is just a bit further away than ideal. You can mount a phone cradle to it (I ended up doing exactly that.) The appearance is good but there is a bit of a gap at the bottom. Installation just required loosening that dash trim piece enough to sneak one of the Kuda's mounting tabs under it.

Kuda mounts are only for Mercedes that actually exist so I'm not sure you qualify yet

Look in the dictionary for "insult to injury" and you will see this example. Oh that really hurt!

(I'm the green guy and you're the red guy)

Oh the pain the misery. It got picked up Friday, but I just found out the guy is still in North Carolina.

Definitely.... I think it would be uncomfortable. This is why I ended up with a windshield mount called the imagnet... it's pretty cool...

The problem with generic mounts (dash, windshield etc) is that they look okay until the moment you connect the charging cable, then they look kinda low rent. I'm okay having to lean an extra inch to my right to access the device on the Kuda.

Hey Mike, I just ordered a Kuda. How and where did you hard wire your charging cable?

Tucked under the lower edge of the center console then up thru the crease at the glovebox door, into the box and then to the 12v receptacle in the glovebox.

There is a 12v receptacle in the glove box? Where?

2010+ only. But there's a fuse block in the end of the dash panel you can tap into for a 12v receptacle and run that into the glove box.

Thanks for the info Mike. I put the Kuda mount in this morning and finally found the usb and 12 volt port for the charging cable. The kuda went in easy enough. I was a bit confused as to what the metal piece was for. It didn't seem to fit in between the molding and the dash panel. I just bent it back per the instructions. I did screw it in on the glove box side to keep it tight.

I prefer a magnetic mount so I attached a magnet to the kuda.It looks really good.
