Drivers Wheel Back Further?
I have a 2007 S550 4Matic and the drivers side front tire is further back then the passenger, what controls where the tire sits? What should i check for first? The car drives straight as an arrow. No vibrations or noises.

Yes, that's a design feature intended to give squirrels who are crossing the car's path from right to left an extra millisecond of time to avoid being run over. I'm totally serious.

If you aren't going to help or give advice, why waste time out of your day to post something stupid like that? We aren't kids here...

SquirrelMatic
"In order to prevent collisions with rodents and small animals, your S Class is equipped with SquirrelMatic. The SquirrelMatic system automatically repositions the left front wheel further back to allow rodents and small animals an added margin of egress. (In right hand drive countries, the right front wheel is adjusted) To disable SquirrelMatic, stop drinking in the middle of the day".
Now who's acting childish? Apology accepted.

How does one block a certain user? Mike grow up guy.
I know the control arm is what holds it but being my first 4matic I don't know whats all tied into the system. If anybody has useful information, please. If you're going to post like Mike, don't.

Have you taken it into your dealer or indy to have it checked out? If it's holding a straight line and you don't have irregular tire wear, then it is likely designed like that....likely due to space constraints with the 4matic.

Now normally I would have stopped at the first little joke, but you getting all emotional and cranky has resulted in two follow ups. Awesome follow ups, I might add. Now I will step aside to make way for the flurry of helpful posts that are no doubt about to flood in.

I haven't yet but I will soon, wanted to chime in here and see if anyone can help or experienced this. I may go test drive another S550 and see what that one looks like.

I'm wondering if the front clip has been pushed in on one side giving the illusion of the wheel being set back.

Denis, Can you provide pics of this, with a tape measure so we can actually see this?
Nominally, I would imagine that if one wheel in the front of the car sits back further than the other wheel, that is a indication of some damage the car experienced. You can call MB NorthAm and ask them if they know of MB designing a car with one wheel setting back further than the other?

For those of you who don't find Mike funny, go into COMAND and click on the following settings:
System > Settings & Options > Humor > Sense of Humor > Click the "Enable" checkbox > Save
OK now back to the serious question at hand...
I'll actually try to be helpful here now that I'm done being funny. Only reason that wheel could be further back is a previous collision or someone hit something and bent a suspension part.
Have it looked at from underneath while on a hoist. Comparing left to right sides on every suspension part and frame part should give you a pretty good idea if anything is bent or out of line.
I wouldn't worry about it. If you aren't wearing out that one tire in a funny pattern (or it isn't wearing faster than the others) there is nothing to worry about.
Is it obviously visible? Do you have pics? Just out of interest more than anything else..

I'm just thinking that if one front wheel actually was positioned rearward of the other front wheel, the car would steer much more easily in the direction of that wheel. It's incomprehensible that Mercedes (or any manufacturer) would build a car with an asymmetrical wheelbase.
My guess is that the wheel is positioned square with its counterpart, and somehow the point of reference is different and creating an illusion, but without a picture it's impossible to tell.
Take a tape measure from the middle of center hub of the left rear wheel to the middle center hub or the right front wheel. Do the same on the opposite side and note any discrepancy.
Meanwhile this is what greeted me this morning. I guess I must have cursed myself:

I've been here a few yrs. and from time to time feel a little squirel(l)y, too. I've asked techie queries and usually have minimal, real, replies. But, I also have had dear people pm w/ legit help and sincere caring.
I get the poster w/ the perceived wheel issue wrote in good faith and sought advice. But, I thought your advice addressed MB's engineering environmental sensitivity of Phylum Chordata/Order Rodentia quite well. Pls. continue to be squirrel(l)y; life's too short.
