91-94 500E vs 87-91 560SEC

Now that I have a S550. I would eventually like to get a daily driver,

Which of those two listed would be a good daily driver, the S550 would become more of a weekend car.

Please give me your opinions...

Thx

Isn't the S550 supposed to be the daily driver? With all its comfort features

Your S550 gets considerably better gas mileage than either of the other vehicles and has much better performance, acceleration and cornering. I previously owned and SEC for many years. It was one of the best vehicles available at the time. At best I was able to get 15 mpg. Your S550 should get at least 24 mpg and possibly 27+ mpg on the highway. Also the older vehicles required service more often-- 7500 miles vs 10000 miles. There were only a limited number of SECs build. Any that you find will be either in near mint condition with a very high asking price or will have well over 100,000 miles and have many parts that replacement could need. The only good news about the SEC is Mercedes makes all parts available for these vehicles, but some of the parts can be extremely expensive. The only reason for not using your S550 as a daily driver is during the winter if you live in the snow belt.

Good points!

I really do enjoy driving my S550, it's just so nice and comfortable that it even feels better after not driving it fir a few days.

The 560 would defenitely be a little sportier and fun to drive in my opinion.
I would not mind doing some of the maintenance myself.

Still undecided...

I know in my case I have a bit of OCD. When I first get something nice, I don't want to wear it out, I like to just look at it. I've bought new cars before and then spent thousands buying used cars to drive because I haven't wanted to "wear out" my new car. But you know what? Life is too short for that. I bought a brand new truck and had someone blow a stop sign and tbone me two days later. After they fixed it I traded it in and lost alot and bought another new one. Two weeks later a 90 something year old lady blacked out, swerved into the parked cars on the side of the road, and yup, mine was the one she hit the hardest.. Two brand new cars wiped out in under two months.. Neither my fault. Sometimes you just have to realize they are only metal and plastic. I'd save your money for repairs and maint. if I was you. Of course I am not calling you OCD or saying you have the same problem I do/did. But I still think no matter the reason, just enjoy the car, if something happens fix it, but there is no need to spend more money on another car, an older cheaper car I might add, when you have a perfectly good daily driver right here. Just my opinion.

OCD

I think you are correct and probably have some of that.

Maybe I just need something to keep me busy and one of those cars would do pthe trick. The 560sec is stunning to look at and the 500e U.S. getting harder to find.

Keep your opinions coming...
