Massaging Seats Air Leak...Normal or Broken?
Hi guys, is it normal to hear Air "Hissing/Leaking" out of the seats when the massaging feature is turned on? Once I turn on my massaging seats, at about every 20 seconds or so, I strongly hear Air leaking out of the seats, as if they were breathing air out...but I don't think its a normal sound. I should point out that I'm not talking about the slight mechanical sound the seats make, this is a hissing sound. I took the car to the MB Dealer where they said that they fixed the drivers seat, but I hear it coming out of the passenger seat now.
Is or has anyone else experienced this? Thanks

The massage function operates using air cushions positioned one above the other. These cushions are successively filled with air which is held in the
respective cushions for a period of time and then released. If passenger seat is reacting differently than repaired driver seat a problem exists, have them revisit under warranty.

If you don't have the radio on and it's very quiet, yes, you will hear hissing (it's just air releasing out of the chambers for the massage). It's present and it's there, but you have to be in a dead silent situation.

I have the dynamic side bolsters in my E 350 and the massage function. I noticed a hissing sound every time I rounded a corner. So to the dealer the car went. Turns out it was a leaking air bladder replaced under extended warranty.
Except for this failure, I have never heard a hissing sound from the seats in this car. I would have the dealer look at it again.

I think you are right but I believe that the massaging function uses air bladders to make the effect as Konigstiger states. That would imply he has an air leak somewhere; especially if he hears a hissing sound. If so, I hope he has a warranty.

Probably a wasted trip to the dealer, a issue like that they will just tell you it's normal, they could be right too that it is normal as there are some strange noises made when the seat massager is turned on.
