Photo: What is this switch?
See the switch in the red circle. My guess was a rear fog light, but it's pointing in the wrong direction and the rear fog, AFAIK, is on the dial.
I'd appreciate info on the switch. Thanks.
BTW, I'm currently driving an E38 BMW 750iL (V12) and working on buying a 13 W221 4Matic w/ Night View, B&O, Splitview, rear package, etc. I'm hoping I'm making a good decision....
Edit: The photo above is not from the vehicle I'm considering.

If that's true, they've never come on automatic. How it works for 2010+ is you have to hit the washer button for the front windshield like 5 times in a row to make the headlight washer pop up which are a useless waste of money anyway. They should have an actual wiper on the headlights and washer, ala w140

I looked at the 2009 manual and that button is already gone. I then looked at 2007, and it is in fact the headlight washer button....

I have an 07 and love having that option available. Not sure why they removed it on the newer w221's, or made it a more difficult option to use. Hopefully on the W222's they added it back in.

I've accidentally hit it a few times in my 07 CL and it shoots cleaner fluid all over the hood of the car. Totally useless imo.

The button at least gives you control and the ability not to use it if you don't want it.

The headlight washer switch was only available on the 2007 W221. In 2008, it went to an automatic setup. I'm much happier having control over when it's turned on....vs every couple of window wash cycles. When I had my M5, I programmed the headlight washers off completely.

Yea. It won't come on unless you hit the washer stalk 5 times (in a row) with no waiting. If you hit it once, then 10 min later again, then again, then again, it won't come on. I tried this with a friend and that's how it is, if I remember. Now, what else is dumb, is when it activates, you have no idea, unless u are standing in front if the car. You can't hear it while driving. You should at least get a light or warning notification on command telling you they activated. At least this way you'll know you need a car wash as soon as your home - from the mess they leave behind.
(I can't remember if its 3 times in a row or 5 to activate)

I have the swith beside the headlight.....on my 07'.
I've trued it once......while driving and all it did was spray washer fluid on my hood (which left stains as it was a hot day). Tried it once when I was stationary, less spray on the hood.
Don't think I'll ever use it again.

Come on Mike. You HAVE to have a thought about the post two above.
I rather like the 10 times the headlight washer works. Down here in the south, we almost never use it. But, if you are driving in snow/salt/ice conditions, you are hitting the wipers dozens of times an hour. I think that is what it was designed for.
The little mechanical wiper was subject to rock hits, massive bug collections, not to mention all of the other crap that comes up from the road. How effective where they at cleaning the headlight lens? I question that.
