AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) on W221 fail?

If by "fail" you mean "crashing into the car in front of it at a high rate of speed" then yes, technically the S Class "failed" the autonomous braking test. But it's really a matter of semantics at this point.
The Mercedes is the only car in the test that identifies the make and model of the car ahead of it, determines the likely net worth of the car's driver, the cost of repairs to his vehicle and any potential injury lawsuit, and then decides whether or not it's worth spilling your coffee by emergency braking. Had the test vehicle had a fake Bentley logo on it the S would have stopped in time. It's called Pre-SNOB:
Sense
No
Obvious
Benefit
...in avoiding the crash. Geez, man, Read your manual once in awhile.

If Mike and I drove that car down you would've had it by now! Darn, and I just discovered a trick where luminol wont pick up anything.

Yeah! Jason and I would already have posted bail and gotten the car out of police impound by now. Meanwhile, the transport driver you hired probably takes your owner's manual into his motel room at night to use as wack-off material, and you have no S Class to speak of.
Happy now?

the w221 will apply up to 40% of its brakes without driver's input. those 40% were sufficient to slow down the car from 50mph, but not in the other two cases.
if the driver was to apply the brakes, the car would have applied 100% braking force thus avoiding the collision.
the benz performed according to designed behavior.
i posted it on youtube too.

And regarding this pre safe thing, do all 10-13's have this standard? Or is this feature only on cars with the glossy plastic thing in the grille?

It functions the same way in the W222. The only upgrade is that after the emergency braking sequence ends, the perfume infuser dispenses its entire contents because the car presumes you've just crapped your pants.

Not to change the subject but you guys need to check out the video's on youtube, some transport driver in NC is trying to jump some poor slobs S550 over 12 school buses before he delivers it. He has to get new tires for it first, he's already burned up the set that were on it doing doughnuts

Headline from the National Safety Council website: “2017 Estimates Show Vehicle Fatalities Topped 40,000 for Second Straight Year”.
Perhaps we should give technology a chance to help.
