Dammit!!! Just when I thought everything was going to be easy I hit a snag. So the wiring was the easiest part lol. Now I can connect my phone to the allcast when I have it hooked up via hdmi to the tv but when it is hooked up to the HDMI/AV converter nohing. It seems there needs to be crosstalk between the allshare and the converter. As if to fool it into thinking it was a tv. Also Snovvman the fuse box is not switched I mispoke on that part sorry. I'll see if I can figure it all out. In the meantime after seeing what google maps looks like on the tv if it is anything like that on the COMAND this phone will pretty much takeover as COMAND lol

ok i think I figured it out. It has to be an HDCP compliant converter that handshakes with the allshare first. I'll get back on that after I get one

So where did you end up finding switched power?

I have an Allshare hub and sometimes use an HDMI to VGA adapter cable with it. For the VGA adapter, I think it needed to be powered and show signal on a certain pin on the HDMI side. With the HDMI to composite being powered, I thought it would work. You might want to research for one that people review as "works with Allshare".

Can't wait to see it work! Stick the phone on a cradle, connect it to the car's audio via A2DP/Viseeo (if Allshare doesn't pass all the audio), and control the phone via "Ok Google" or a host of other voice command apps....

Ok 1 problem solved. Ordered this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Car-Wi-Fi-Mir...e&talgo=origal

Goes right to RCA. Well see what th quality is. Did a ton of researching last night and this is a very popular screen mirroring device throughout the world and is mainly available in china but it is also in Canada I guess. Lucky for me I live pretty close to Canada So I should be getting it sometime next week between mon and wed . Still gotta figure out a fused power supply but will get back to you on that

Dont forget you also need Video in motion too . What made this a challenge is just that it hasnt really been done in our cars yet so theres a learning curve but its really a simple install thanks to the aux video/audio inputs. Next week itll all come together !!!! Stay tuned i got plenty of pics and will be posting a detailed DIY on it also

The mirabox came in! All in all it is awesome. There are just a few things that could be better but im not complaining. For analog its pretty clear but theres background noise but i will see if i can minimize that and you have to be using as little resources on your phone as possible especially when playing hd or it lags a lot. It is also alot more simple to install than i thought. You have to hardwire it. So no need for a lighter outlet. Ill just use the one i installed for tire pumps etc. But i used the wiring to piggyback off of. It doesnt really take up much current either. 0.5 amps working, 0.2 standby. Not going to bother worrying about switched circuit. Noe i just have to find another phone to take pics. Ill post them soon

Ok so here's a DIY for those who would like to mirror the screen of their phone onto their Comand. I will discuss the pitfalls of the various methods i tried using. And as a bonus I will include how to install a non switched live outlet in your glove blox lol.

So the tools you need are pretty basic:

Drill + bits

Wire stripper/cutter/crimper

12 gauge wire with in-line fuse

Wire connectors- hook connectors, T-taps, male/female splice connectors.

10mm socket/wrench

Plastic pry tool

25 torx screwdriver

First we will begin by removing the panel by the glove box

This will expose the nonswitched fuse block

Next remove the two torx screws that hold the fuse block on

Next pry out the fuseblock being careful not to touch the metal bracket above it. If you want to place it safe you can disconnect the battery with a 10mm socket but i was too lazy.

Next is prep time. You want to prepare by drilling a hole in the glove compartmemt, and put connectors onto wires. First O removed the sound deadening material from the outside of the glove compartment and found a spot to drill for the cigarette light outlet ( its only a 100k dollar car).

I used a step dril and as each step passed i tried putting the socket in until it was snug.

Now, you do not have to drill a gaping hole for a lighter socket but what you do have to do is drill a small hole so that the power cord for the mirabox can go through. Heres is a pic of the install after

Nice gaping hole in my glove box

I drilled a smaller hole just above the hole for the lighter socket.

Ok so now prep the electrical connections. I used a 12g inline fused wire for the power and put a loop connector on one end to attach it to the fuse block and a female connector on the other end to attach to the socket.

Next make a ground wire with black 12g wire with a loop connector and a femal connector at the end. The ground will connect to the small 10mm bolt on the bracket right next to the fuse block

Next remove the 10mm nut from the main line that feeds the fuseblock and attach the loop connector from the fused line we prepped. Make sure there is no fuse yet so you do not short anything.

Yellow wire is our new fused line

Now at this point if you dont want to install a socket go ahead and connect male connectors to the end of the mirabox and splice them into the main line. Or connect the wires to the socket

Tested to see if it worked. Light turned on and no burning smell... success!!!!

Now either you have hooked up the mirabox or you need to piggyback it to the lines of the socket. I used a t-tap and some male connectors to connect the power wires from the mirabox. Now the fuse block is always hot so I will never have anything plugged into unless the engine is on. It will be for a tire pump or some other device that requires high current.

Tapping from the power lines

Everything is buttoned away and the hard part is done!!!!!!!!!

Now your mirabox should have a blue led light on. Plug that baby into the AV inputs in the glove box and away we go. If your car did not come with the inputs i cannot help you. That is a total other project.

Now your screen should look like this when you switch to video AUX.

It works with iOS or android. Mine is an android. In order to select the connection system press mode button for one second. The screen will go blank for a few seconds and the android icon will be highlighted. Make sure your phone supports screen mirroring. Its not quite as crisp as the original screen but it is pretty dam close. Theres just some static background noise. Tried a ground loop isolator but it cut the video so ill have to see how i can quiet the electrical noise. All in all not a bad install. The audio comee through very nice though with absolutely no static noise. Ill have to take a pic of google maps. It is freakin awesome compared to our crappy nav system and is always updating through internet connection

With my camera on lol. Screen mirroring x infinite

I tried the allshare which has a hdmi connection and really it would have been the best thing to use but mercedes didnt out a digital input and also if you use a digital to analog converter it is required to be hdcp compliant. I looked for ones but they were mainly in china and would take 6-8 weeks to deliver and were 300 dollars. That might have been the best choice, but this choice got the job done, and only costed a total of 120 dollars
