Yeah, I wish the M-B setup is backlit. It can be done, but it would be a hack job. It would be cool if the button glowed when you first get into the car.

I think he bought the Chinese version. Some folks just want to be different. It looks like a headphone/no headphones button to me.

I bought it. It is OEM--came from Canada. I thought about buying another, stripping the finish, and refinish it some other way. It's on not on the top of my priority list though. I had a true German market V12 BMW (another unicorn and another story). It was all graphics and I liked it that way. Since the M-B controls are already mostly graphics, the button is a better match. The new button does confuse the car wash people sometimes....

For those who are ignorant: In markets/regions where there are multiple languages, most controls are labeled in graphics rather than words. I believe the Start/Stop labeling is a U.S. DOT requirement. This is why the controls for most European cars are already graphical. Cars from domestic makers destined for U.S. market, especially older model years, you see more word-labeled controls. In Canada, M-Bs have the graphical button that you see in the OP.
