So here's a quick update. No change after five months. Still cathing to pee, still no sensation in half my junk, and the original complaint that lead to the surgery wasn't touched by the surgery. This week I finally got accepted by the Mayo Clinic in nearby Jacksonville for an eval. Those guys do not screw around. They're still sending me to specialists and doing testing but their initial impression is that during the surgery, the damage from the slipped bone drill bit went beyond just the nerve's sheath as my surgeon described.

They suspect the drill also took a chunk out of the nerves themselves. My local docs wrote the symptoms off as post surgical inflammation but it looks like in order for it to resolve the damaged nerves themselves have to regenerate on their own, or I'm stuck with pee tubes and a limp pecker for life

Mayo says 1.5 years post surgery is the point where nerve damage restores to whatever extent it can, and you're left with whatever remains. So tomorrow I'm going to the Uro Lab for a Penile Doppler Test. That's where they inject your dong with magic boner juice and then use some probe thingie to measure blood flow. Earlier this week I got to have my dong poked repeatedly with a pin to determine where the lost sensation is, and a rectal exam. Luckily if the magic boner injection actually works, and I don't mind sticking my dick with a needle whenever I need a hard on, I'll at least be able to get a scrip for that stuff and have sex.

One bright spot...I love my car. Doing the stereo and the new wheels totally seals the deal. No matter how bad a day you're having, at the end of it if you can drive home in an S Class, it ain't that bad.

Mike sorry to hear that things haven't cleared up by now. Hoping that things continue to improve albeit more slowly one would have previously hoped for. BTW I read your W221 audio blog. Very impressive exercise.

Hey Mike, interesting update.

Here I am 3 months later and as you predicted the nerves are slowly coming around on their own. I kicked the cane to the road and after having 9 or more MRI's, CAT Scans, Ultrasound and EMG's I got to a Neuro-Surgeon who could walk and chew gum at the same time. He said "all the tests show Zip, zero and nada. I'm not going to go digging around in your spine to see what I can find when the downside (some sort of paralysis) is greater than the upside" He cancelled all the upcoming tests and said be patient, things are improving.

2 weeks ago I played 9 holes of golf. We're heading to Naples for the winter some time in December and I plan to play tennis every day. So even if my tennis isn't as good as it was before that's life. I can still play golf.

We'll see what the condition is like in another 3 months and go from there. Once I wean off all this hydromorphone (6 times more powerful than morphine) I'll feel a whole lot better.

Hang in Mike. Shoot the juice in and ride the pony. If you haven't returned to normal in a few more months, let your lawyer buddy go wild.

Mike, I hope things get much better, even if it happens to take some time.

Mike has the right attitude about life and seems to make the most out of it. I'm sure he's going to be fine, even if it's with only 1 ball and half a dick.

So just got back from the Mayo Uro lab. They did that Doppler test and discovered a vein is leaking, hence preventing decent boners which rely on back pressure. Plus insufficient blood in-flow, then add the loss of sensation on half...it's a miracle I can get half a boner at all. And all this time I thought it was because my wife was getting too fat.

Now I get a scrip for Trimex, which I inject into my dong (suddenly I'm okay with some numbness) to increase blood flow then I have to wear a ring to keep the blood from leaking out too fast and BAM, I'm back in Bonerville.

Mike, I can't believe the $_it you are going through. Hang in there and keep chasing them. Your attitude is awesome and something we will all need to remember at some point in our lives.

Good luck with the healing and the boner juice. Oh and I take it your wife does not see these posts.

Every time I see this post I have to read it. It warms my heart. You are right; during times like this nothing else matters, you have to say what you feel and be the person you are. If you haven't been fortunate enough to experience this it's real emotional push for you. My father always used to tell me "it's not the destination, it's the journey" I never really understood that till recently. Have a great journey.

Yes! I view these challenges as an opportunity for personal reflection and growth. As I take the first steps in this new phase of my life, and embrace the changes around me, I can't help but think "I'm gonna sue the sh*t out of that ****-sucker surgeon and buy an S63 Coupe."

While I wish you well and I'm sorry To hear about your medical problems, this is a car forum. Not a medium to vent. Of course you have friends here and of course we all wish you well and wish you weren't suffering in any way, but your graphic account of your medical issues on a car forum seems misplaced. On top of that, I take offense to your automatic reaction there has to be some medical practice. And I'm an attorney. I'm not referring to your comment above. I'm referring to your earlier comment when you initially started this thread. Not everything that goes wrong is a result of someone's alleged negligence. Of course, I'm not saying that your doctor was not negligent and did not commit malpractice (I know nothing about the facts other than what you posted), but everyone's automatic reaction is to assume that, because something went wrong, some one is at fault

If you re-read the first post, the point was to explain my sudden absence from the forum, and to apologize to two forum members with whom I had a disagreement before I'd gone in for the procedure. The aside about the Maybach (which was the only allusion to a potential med mal case and obviously a joke) was hardly the point of the post.

Actually, it turned out to be a good discussion. I'm not sure if you read all four pages, but several members brought to light their own serious medical challenges. Stuff like that adds a human element to the forum that you don't get from discussions of the dry technical merits of one kind of tire versus another.

With respect to a med mal claim, I also do not know if there's negligence. I suspect there may have been, and I suspect a med mal carrier may not want to litigate, but that's why we have courts, right? To sort these things out.

Believe me, I spent a decade coordinating PI defense work from the insurance side. I'm totally aware that an injury alone is not in and of itself proof of negligence. I'm not sure at this point there's even a permanent impairment.

But I'm sure you'd agree if complications from a slipped instrument during an elective outpatient procedure left you permanently unable to urinate or perform sexually for the remainder of your life, you'd at least contemplate legal redress.

As they say....the scroll button is your friend. Scroll on by if a guy with 2300+ posts says something you don't like. Strike 1.

"...this is a car forum. Not a medium to vent."

Obviously you are wrong here. You may not like it if someone vents in this forum but clearly it does take place, and on a variety of topics, some "car" related, some not so much. Strike 2.

"Not everything that goes wrong is a result of someone's alleged negligence."

Wow, like Howard Cosell, you're A Master Of The Obvious....LOL. Strike 3.

You are O-U-T.

(and to think there was probably 6 or 7 more strikes in such a short passage really is amazing! might be a record!! go to law school at night? or possibly on some obscure Caribbean island?)

I think it's important for us to be mindful of the fact that, while the forum membership is overwhelmingly male, it is not exclusively male. Sometimes the locker-room banter that goes on here, with its off-color overtones, might be inadvertently offensive to some.

Obviously this nice lady did not expect to find a frank discussion of male urogenital dysfunction and took offense. I think we need to respect her point of view, regardless of how prudish and petty it may be from a male perspective.

You were offended? Give me a break. You haven't been around long enough to feel the beat of this forum. If that offended you, then hang on. Seems to me, the only thing that was offensive to you was the medical malpractice comment. After you made comments about this being a car forum (not a medium to vent), you gave your 2 cents about non car info. I find your comments highly offensive and suggest you stick to the "car related" topics and get the hell out of this one....

Admittedly, I think I may have made a comment or two too quickly instead of paying more attention to what I was responding too. I think one was about a CPO post, but you're obviously missing the point. If you're suggesting my comments have no merit because of my total number of posts, that's ridiculous. Of course people vent, but this is a car forum and a place to vent about cars and other associated issues. This is not a medical forum and I found some of the OP's comments a little crass. That's my opinion and I don't particularly care whether you agree. Since you know nothing about me, your insults are meaningless, but the fact that you feel compelled to resort to insults says something about you and whatever insecurity or ego issues you may have.

Right. Next we should got to a bar, order some beer and watch the game while we slap ourselves on the back and grunt.

Seems to me that the beat on this forum (specifically those who have responded to my post) is made up of a individuals who don't like to be challenged and can't stomach that someone may have a different view.

Let's presume for a moment you play a round of golf at a country club you just joined. After your game, you're in the locker room and several other guys are hanging out, shooting the breeze about something off topic. From the conversation it seems like these guys have a history, and this is a well worn subject.

Would you stand up on a bench and loudly announce "Gentleman, this is a place to shower and change and discuss golf and golf related things!! I find your discussion inappropriate and distasteful!"

No, or course not, because who are you to dictate to these guys what is or isn't appropriate conduct in a club you just joined, and that they've been members of for years?

Maybe your assumptions of what the club was or wasn't were incorrect in the first place. Think of the forum like the locker room at your golf course. Yes, we play a ton of golf here, and we all love golf and talking about golf. But occasionally we talk about our dicks.

Now if you want a more dry, technical forum that's heavily moderated (and essentially lifeless), BenzWorld is probably more your thing.

Generally, if you feel something slapping on your back and hear grunting, Dave is "at it" again.

I think that your original post (in a Mercedes forum) was a bizarre cathartic exercise. You can justify it however you like. That's my opinion. if you believe that the length of time during which I have been a member is relevant, you are misguided. I'm also a member of renlist (I have a Porsche as well). Do you think I should believe you are less credible and entitled to an opinion to a lesser extent because of how recently you joined? We're not in a locker room. This is a Mercedes forum and I'm not dictating anything. I'm stating my opinion. If you believe you have the right to post your cathartic exercises, I should have a right to call you out. I'm not insulting you, calling you names or acting in a condescending manner; however, I recognize that people have a problem being challenged and understand your point even if I don't think it's analogous.

Speaking of getting my point, I just found out I'm scheduled for more pecker tests. This time they want to test my bladder function. I guess they put a probe in your butt, and one in the old donger, and send a signal through to test the ability of the the bladder to contract. Wish me luck, bro!
