Possible to Convert 2007 s550 to a Push Button Start?

Hey guys,
I was curious...Is it possible to convert my 2007 s550 4matic to a push button start? What is entailed in this if it can be done? I looked on the forum and couldn't find any info on this...
Thanks,
Anthony

Didn't all the 221's have push button start? I think Dave's right (geez it hurt my soul a little typing that ) The button should have come with the car. I don't think it's chipped, I believe it just acts as a relay for the existing key so any button from a 221 should work.

So the button is all that's needed? I know there is a keyless go module that exist. I'm not sure if it already comes in all of the w221s. I'm pretty sure this would involve the module and some sort of programing also. I know a whIle back some ran my Vin to check my options and it revealed that I DIDN'T have keyless go. It this was considered an "option " from mercedes, something tells me it isn't as simple as just buying the button.

Depends on the weather
Nope, I remember when I was looking at S550's and thinking they all had it, but they don't because some of them needed a key/ They need the keyless go package, I believe it's called. You can spot it by the little triangle symbol on the door handle which unlocks the doors by touching it and allows you to use push button start. Those push buttons are interchangeable and you can use any of them to start the car, it just looks for the frequency of the key to actually start it.

One day I grabbed my S550 key and put it in my pocket and tried to start my S600 pressing the button and it was saying key not found or key not verified, something like that and I realized I had the wrong key. I was able to use my 550 push button on my 600 and vice verse.

Are you able to lock/unlock your car by touching the handle? If so, you have keyless go but your button is just missing and you could replace it with the one above. If it doesnt work, you don't have the keyless go package.

No now the question is if we can add certain packages like auto trunk and keyless with proper modification. Meaning corect modules and harnesses and coding. Is it worth it?

It really wouldn't hurt to spend $20 for the button and see if that works. I've never seen one without the button.

You can add the module to close the trunk with the remote. JasonB sells these I think.

Auto open/close button in the trunk is not standard? I just discovered I can close the trunk with the button from inside of the car.

True.

Or if you know anyone with a W221 or go test drive one and just borrow the button and see if it works in your car.

Keyless-Go was an extra cost option for your vehicle. Keyless-Go vehicles also use a different part number key fob which looks identical to the non keyless-go one but contains some additional circuitry. The keyless-go key fob is also more expensive.

It may be possible to add the feature to your vehicle, but it could cost well over a thousand dollars. See http://www.mbenznl.nl/ which offers keyless-go retrofits

OP, There is no need to waste $20 dollars on the button to test if you have keylessgo or not.
The fact is, if your car is equipped with the keylessgo feature, you will find the little rectangle or square touch sensor button on each door handle. Thats it. if those are not there, you don't have keyless.

My car has the diamond/square shape portion by the door, but when looking at it closely, it doesn't appear to be transparent. Could the cars without keyless entry possibly have the cut out with a black delete piece, but not the sensor for production/cost reasons? Look at mine and tell me if it resembles yours. I would think it would be transparent to some degree.

No, you don't have it. There would be one on the actual handle itself also.

So I would have to change the handle as well? I am not intimidated to update as one of my local junk yards currently has 5 s550's and I think 2 s600's 2007 and up. Owners are friends of mine. Parts are relatively inexpensive by comparison to Benz prices for me. I would like the keyless go feature and push button start if I can do it...What's needed exactly if known?

Some of the parts required are classified as anti-theft related which will preclude parts taken from another vehicle from working in yours unless the vehicle anti-theft related software is updated. Mercedes keeps an extremely tight control of this to prevent vehicle thefts. You will need a keyless-go key fob. You will discover that there is no easy way to get a key fob from another vehicle to work with yours. I am not sure if any dealers have the ability to reprogram a key fob. The only way to get a replacement key is for the dealer (or Mercedes certified locksmith) to first verify you are the owner of the vehicle by inspecting vehicle VIN tag, your vehicle registration, and your identification. Then MBUSA will ship to them a key fob programmed to match your vehicle VIN number.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the reply. Yes I figured I would have to get a new key/fob from Benz. I am told they go for about $175 to $200. I don't mind spending some money, I just like the keyless option as well as the push button start and would like that feature if I can make it happen. Wondering if it is a plug and play as well after I have the necessary door handle and proper key fob...

I'm pretty sure this would be prohibitively expensive if it is even possible. Simply buying a new door handle wont do anything, because there wouldn't be any wiring in the door to connect to the handle, nor would there be whatever control module is needed for the setup to work. There would also need to be an antenna in the door to sense the key, as well as an antenna in the car to sense when the key is in the vehicle.

I'd say you're looking at $5k minimum if it's even possible, and I have a feeling it would be quite a bit more than that

The key fob cost is about double your estimate. In addition, it is likely that you would only receive the non-keyless go if you ordered one since that is what the official Mercedes record would show is the appropriate key fob for your car.

If you want to find out exactly what needs to be done, contact http://www.mbenznl.nl which is a company that has done the conversion and they should also be able to give you a cost estimate.

To each his own is the point I was trying to make. I do not have pushbutton start on my Porsche, but after having it on the S-class, I wish all cars had it. It's really convenient not to have to fumble with keys.
