Stiggy did his homework the right way, especially buying an AMG car. With the detailed report checking out, I don't see why there would be any need to have the expense of flying down there and driving it all the way back. Shipping is much cheaper and puts zero miles on the car.

I bought mine sight unseen without an inspector. The dealership had a great rep for shipping cars with lots of repeat business. All service records since day 1 at a high end Benz dealership, with the car never going more than 2900 miles between oil changes....and a 1 owner car driven by a guy in his 70's. Not to mention over 50 high def pics on the dealer's website. Much cheaper to spend $800 to have it shipped from San Diego to Chicago than to spend the money on airfare, losing 3-4 days of work, and lots of money spent on gas....plus the wear and tear on a long trip driving it home.

The only reason I didn't buy local was because I purchased the best ultra-low mileage '07 S600 for sale in the country at the time. There weren't any low mileage 1 owner S600's remotely close to where I live. If I were buying an S550, I would have purchased locally as there are lots of them available all over the place. Low mileage, fully maintained S65's & S600's are very difficult to find and rare beasts.

Depends on the weather
Yes, it is hard to find them that are not beat up. I saw 2 when I flew down. The first one was that designo that I posted and that one that was in absolute horrible condition. I hope no one buys because they are going to be in for a lot of trouble.

Looks like you dodged a "lemon" with that 2008 S65 at AutoNation. It was purchased on 7/6 & returned 7/10 & back for sales on 7/15 "AS-IS" with no AutoNation certification. I called contact the dealer & they confirmed it back for sale but it's in for repair at Mercedes Benz.

Thank god I had that inspection done and their sales guy called me saying it was back on the market I told him I'd think about it just to be nice since he took the time to call me but deep down I knew they would never be able to retail it. I believe they ended up wholesaling it Canes. Nicely optioned S65... too bad.

I just got 2008 S65 AMG. Found it online, got it shipped to place I was visiting then drove it 1300 miles home.
