2012 S350 Questions - New Member

Hi,

I am a new member with a 2012 S350 (with Premium Package and Split View), and I was wondering if there was a way to add some other S350 options to my car, using after market products and services. Specifically:

Night Vision

Remote Car Starter

Driver Assist Package (Lane Change, Blind Spot)

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

While anything can be accomplished with enough time and money, I would say that due to the complexity and degree of integration, no to the Nightview Assist (I have it...it's a cool party trick but not especially useful), and no to the Driver Assist as well. However Jason here on the forum can get you a module from MidCity that does the remote start. That's something I use every day and I love it.

There are two levels. First is just the MidCity remote module which will start the car when triggered by the key fob. Its range obviously is limited to the range of the fob. Or there's an add-on piece by Drone Mobile that allows the MidCity module to be triggered by your smartphone via a subscription app. That will remote start the car from anywhere. So if we're out shopping I'll start the car while we're still ten minutes or so out, and it's nice and cool when we get to it. The app will also remote lock/unlock and open the trunk. Jason can get you both pieces. Install is straightforward plug and play and most owners do it themselves.

The remote feature is fantastic. It is factory standard on the Australian Holden Calais but they have safety features that an after market may not have. The Aussie version has the following

1. You must press the lock key first to ensure the car is locked before you remotely start
2. The engine will start but the doors remain locked and the car can not be driven.
3. Memory will kick in and depending on your setting, either the car will heat or cool (in Oz we need cool)
4. You can open the door if you have the key with you but you need to press the start button+ brake to allow the car to be driven.

Good features, as you don't want to remotely start the car and have anyone drive it away.

The MidCity piece runs the car for 15 minutes. Once in the car, if you touch the brake (as you would to put the car in gear) the engine quits. You have to have the key in your pocket, and press the Start button when you get in for the engine to run continuously. The hazard lights flash 4 times to signal the transition from MidCity to normal operation.

No. My starter died a week after the remote starter was installed. Replaced under CPO warranty no issues.
