Have you looked at the Arnot replacement struts? I believe they're conventional gas charged coil-overs so no more Air Ride, but also no more Air Ride!

Hey Walter,
Were you ever able to find the suspension conversion for your s550 4matic. I bought one from Strutmasters and when I tried to put it on it didn't fit bc it was for the RWD Airmatic. I can't find the 4matic conversion anywhere. If you had any luck please let me know. Thanks Paul

Is this the kit you have? I'm seriously considering it when mine start to go.

So I assume you don't like Airmatic? Because that kit replaces it with standard struts/springs. To me, they seem a bit pricey for just struts/springs. Those also will wear out over time like regular struts.

It's not a matter of liking Airmatic, it's more like reliability and cost for me. I have just started to research it because I'm at 92k on the ODO and assume I will start experiencing Airmatic related failures soon. If I do go the coil over route, does it do away with the air pump, too? I know that sounds like a retarded question but on these cars I wouldn't be surprised if it's used for something else.
