Should I buy an extended warranty
#126
Mine currently has 27000 miles, and if i can't find warranty for 4 years for $4000 to $4500, i'm going to take chance with Mercedes without warranty.
I'm planning to keep the car for about 3 more years, 35000 miles, and the odds for spending more than $5000 should be slim. I've had numerous ML and E class MB for the last 20 years and none of them had any real big issues. Also, I currently have 2004, G500 with 170,000 miles, which I drive everyday and didn't have any issues for the last few years. I can also deal with most issues where I don't have to have STAR and/or lift cars.

What were the issues that you had for $8500?
I really thought that any car would hold well for at least 60,000 miles or so.
If that's not the case, I really need to think again about keeping this car or getting another S Class in the future.

I went with Endurance after, multiple dealers and Independents I deal with had experience with them and were all positive - 5 years $2800

Lots of people spending LOTS of money on extended warranties. Has it paid off?
How much did you save buy buying one? How much would your repair cost if you didn't have one?
You guys know the dealers/manufacturer is betting you never use it, and they have a pretty good idea of how their cars hold up?

Has your insurance paid off? Warranty is no different. It's there when you need it.
At 85k miles, it's peace of mind. To date my repairs have been one module and 2 front struts. Basically trouble free but coverage is there. Financially, warranty provider is still in the black but not by much.
If you are shopping, check the Credit Unions.

I am halfway through my warranty and have about half my premium covered by repairs so far. I would rather spend a few grand and know anything is covered vs risk it. Same as insurance. Between homeowners and 4 cars with two teenage drivers I spend 7K a year on insurance but there is no way I would go without.

It would be interesting how much money the uninsured people spent repairing their cars, let's say in the first 60,000miles. I've never spent that ridiculous amount of money ($8500) on repairs on any car I've owned, maybe our S and CL cars are the least reliable cars ever manufactured, which I really doubt is the case. I've purchased a couple of extended warranties on other cars that I used to have but they never paid for themselves. I also own Audi A8, Lexus LS and Infiniti and nobody on these forums are recommending buying extended warranties....I guess, in the end, I may be a very lucky guy, my CL600 and SL 550 did not give any headaches, only maintenance so far...

I purchased my car in Nov, 2014 with 24k miles. It was a 1 owner CA car driven by a guy in his 70's. I currently have 43.9k on the car. So far my policy has paid out in excess of $12k and I have over 4 years left on the policy.

Obviously, you have not experienced some good luck, but seriously, if everything goes like this, and I would expect even worse, I'm not so sure what you would get for a car with this history when the times will come to eventually sell it or eventually trading in, just my .02...but anyway enjoy your car in the next 4 years !

I'm sure I'll get top money for it. All of the things that have been known to break on an 11 year old Benz with over 600 lb/ft of torque will have been replaced. And all maintenance according to the service book has been performed and then some. Cars like these will a full service history from day one are prized by many with knowledge of the used car market. Having a great warranty has made my ownership experience very very pleasant.
