Depends on the weather
I'm telling you....go test drive one. I've been over pot holes and speedbumps, specifically ones I go over all the time and I feel like the jag is just a tad smoother over them...keep in mind the jag has air suspension also which may be why...or it could be my imagination lol.
It's a smooth riding car though and I do like the technology in the car.

I can't believe the same guy who had his hand in the design of the Aston Martin Vanquish and DB9 is the same guy who designed the current Jaguar XJ's. The Aston's are strikingly gorgeous....while the XJ is, well, Lincolnesque. The XJ looks completely out of sorts IMO....with the front end giving a sporty appearance, way too long looking in the profile... especially the rear half, and a hideous rear end that screams Lincoln MKS. The old Bangle butt 7 series looked better in the rear. To me, it seems that Ian Callum stretched the car to compete with the S-class, 7 series Bimmers, and A8...at the sacrifice of the rear end of the car. The interior is very nice and modern looking...but I just can't get over the grotesque looking exterior, especially that back end. Callum's days at Ford seem to have greatly influenced his designs at Jaguar. Not a good thing IMO when you're designing $100k cars. The Ford Fusion looks light years better to me. Perhaps because Ford stole much of the front end design from AM.
I highly doubt that there are very many W221 owners trading in their cars on the XJL....especially the folks who enjoy world class elegance, performance, and a design that will look good for many years to come.

Werd! It's actually grotesque from the B-pillar on back. There's so much overhang after the rear wheels that it reminds me of a school bus. Pull off the trunk lid, add some rumble seats, and you'll make some detention hungry kids who like getting bounced around very happy.

If you view the center stack from the middle of the rear seats, it definitely resembles a robot with those top mounted vents. DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!

Jaguar lost me, and it makes me sad
someday I hope to buy a used one of some sort..I have a soft spot for the old V12 XJS, maybe someday when I have lots of extra cash to keep it on the road but what a looker, especially (IMO)from the rear end

Okay, I have to test drive another XJL. I LOVE the interior, so British in all the best ways (even though the Chinese own Jag), and the Bowers & Wilkins audio is my wet dream OEM audio system. But I drove one and to me it was as stiff and jittery as a dump truck. I'm serious. I drove it on the same road I drove to the dealership in in my 220. Couldn't believe it. I was so disappointed.
Maybe it was a short wheelbase version (just XJ) or the wheels were upsized but I hated the ride. It handled nice for a car its size, but not refined. Does it have an air suspension and adjustable firmness?

haha all the jokes!!!
Yes, the XJ rides firmer. The XJL is very soft and smooth and the air suspension lowers when you put it in S or in Dynamic mode and it firms up. The audio system is unfreakinbelievable...I couldn't believe it. The HD radio/xm and not to mention I can pop in music on a usb drive in the center console or an ipod and aux input and play it right from there and the same with videos.
The interior is very nice and elegant...the digital dash is a nice touch and the blue led lighting all around.
Like I said, it may not be the best looking car in the world, but it's a nice car and not as flashy as the benz when you just want to be low key.

Ummm....your Benz wasn't flashy either until you modified the crap out of it. Now it's gorgeous....except for the extra badges. I don't think there's enough lipstick you can put on that pig of a Jag to make it look attractive after the B-pillars. IMO, the current XJ is the ugliest car Jag has ever put out in their long and storied history. Even the Ford Contour based X-Type was a lot more attractive. Sorry to be so blunt about a car you obviously like, but it's true.

You have a good nature, that's what I like about you. You take all of the criticism in stride. The 458 is gorgeous, but you better have another car as a daily driver. The 458 is a weekend car only. The maintenance could kill your budget completely.

My friend just bought a 458 speciale
$410k he buys a new one every year and trades it in and gets more money than he paid.
2015 is only year for speciale and it will only continue to rise in value. It will be the last NA motor.
The car is unbelievable to drive compared to every 458 before this.
