That's normal and happens with all w221 lights. Especially if you run through a car wash.

Over-priced! It's a high mileage car. No warranty coverage available and those cars are super expensive to maintain and service. Also seems odd that the bumpers have the exterior proximity sensors when all Distronic Plus cars have them hidden under the bumper covers. Perhaps it was in an undisclosed accident?

There was a 2007 S65 with 30k miles that sold about a year ago for $45k. Now that was a good deal!

i wouldn't touch that with a 10ft poll, s65 amg without a warranty or even if you get one that ends very soon. I wouldn't touch this at all.

Best admired from a distance. I don't think I'd touch an S63 that wasn't CPO either. Pretty though and I bet it goes like hell too.

The price is not as low as you think.

Maintenance and repairs can be a snaggle toof biyotch.

Unless you can do your own work in which case maintenance isn't so bad, and repairs just make you bleed for the parts, and not for the $150/hr labor rate.

And in 5 years when the next gen S has dropped how dated will that 2010 be looking?

The main reason I took the SL63 over the SL65 (which was available for around the same price) was the reliability / repair difference between the (so far) bulletproof M157 and the (historically) issue laden V12.

Realistically, If I get 54k for my SL63 in 2021 I'll feel like I did grrrrreat!!

But hey, the whole point driving the V12 AMG is to pretty much say F you world, money doesn't matter to me. So in that case, you may as well jump on it and live the dream. Provided you really can afford it, that is.

I agree with everything you said, but the w221 body style is classic and timeless (with the refresh). That car is one of the few that will look great 10 years from now. I think the W222 will look older faster if you ask me. It's common and looks like everything else. W221 is commanding on the road, it has a presence... 96-02 4Runner, Honda s2000, are a few that still look great and are 15+ years old.

I love the 1996-1999 Toyota 4Runner, pre-refresh. Don't know what the hell happened to the design after that, but it is beautiful...for a truck.

The S65 being discussed has a beautiful interior though. Love the diamond stitching and the carbon fiber trim. Too bad it's a money pit and that's after $150K in depreciation.

The v12 motor throws ignition coils. That is about it.

The m157 v8 has a history of serious mechanical issues. Valvetrain, timing chain, piston ring seating resulting in high oil consumption to name a few. You also have a 7g tranny which is another problem child. The pre 2014 sl65 cars on the other hand have the bulletproof 5g tranny.

Yes, unfortunately, as Jason mentioned, that appears to be normal. I think I saw on one post in the W222 forum that the headlight condensation occurs on the new S as well. I don't understand why they couldn't design it properly in the first place to avoid this issue???

coils and perpetual heat soak.

time will tell about the rest of it. but I have 5 years unlimited miles to not worry about it. in which case maybe I shoulda gone for the 65 after all. lol

S65 AMG for $54,000. WOW

Did you get your motors mixed up when it came to reliability? The m275 has less mechanical issues compared to the m157 don't know where you came up with that opinion

The v12 does run hot by design yes. However temps are kept in check. If you have heatsoak issues your inter cooler pump is usually the culprit.

Come to think of it the engine mounts on the v12 are the most expensive repair the platform has in the field. The mounts are cheap, but engine must come out.

I've never had an issue with my W221 headlights. I used a pressure washer on my car once a week.

The rotors on that car are cooked. Off the bat you'd have to do a brake job on the car.

Well thanks for the kind comments. I can't sell it, it's just been too reliable. Nothing ever goes wrong and it still looks current. I also have a S2000, and that vehicle also doesn't age either. I don't pick vehicles that have to grow on me when I first see them. I guess I have a good eye still.

It is likely this vehicle will soon need new spark plugs which could easily cost over $1000. If it needs new brake rotors, the OEM price is $1100 each -- plus about $450 for OEM brake pads -> about $5000 for parts plus the cost of labor for a brake job!!

Even if you had a warranty, this vehicle is very expensive to maintain.

Also-- Ad states that it is a one owner California car, yet it is currently located in Michigan.

Kelly Blue Book shows retail price from a dealer is about $42,500 -> the asking price is no bargain.
