What do you guys think a 2007 S550 with 130k miles is worth? I found one thats a little rough around the edges, but I could clean it up and it may not be a bad deal...

Those high mileage S Class have enormous entertainment value on the forum. That's about the extent of their worth. Basic rule: If you can't yet afford an S Class with low mileage you can't yet afford an S Class. That car will break your heart and your budget.

never said i couldn't afford an S class. I just came across this one that seems cheap. If i can clean it up and flip it I may be able to make some cash on it.

By it dirt cheap and flip it quick before it disintegrates. Is this something you do as a business?

yeah it would work out to be around $10k USD. i would need to spend about a grand on it to get it back into presentable condition. I would then need to find a buyer in the US. if I can get around $16-17k then it's worth my while. If it's only worth $13-15k then I won't bother

Hard to say without seeing it. But I'd make sure it's not throwing any codes and hope it doesn't until you can turn it over. Really risky unless you buy it right and can turn it around quick. No bank is likely to lend against it with that mileage and age so you'd need to find a cash buyer.

How could a buyer in the US buy it? When I contacted Mercedes about purchasing a Canadian S Class they indicated that they were not importable. I ask because I prefer the Canadian SWB to the US LWB and as you are indicating that you hope to profit from I would like to take advantage of the US Cad ratio

I believe cross border shopping only applies to new vehicles; I wanted to get a W222 in the states since they offer the S550 with 4Matic and they said no. They, however, did say that I could purchase a used vehicle. I'd assume it'd be the same for Americans wanting to purchase in Canada.

This particular s class is a US car originally which was imported to Canada. It can be imported back to the US very easily.

Hmmm, that is a lot of miles for a used S, may be a tough sale.

well i went to see the car today. exterior not in bad shape, both bumpers need painting, not a big deal. A small scratch on the driver's door, can probably get buffed out. Interior not in bad shape, someone definitely smoked in the car, has some ash on the dash/door panels. Seats are in decent shape, no tears in the leather. Carpet/mats are OK. The trim on the driver side B pillar is worn, looks like from someone rubbing up against it getting in and out of the car. Will need to price out a new one.

As far as the running gear goes, I looked in the trunk and discovered a brand new Airmatic compressor pump in a box. I figured Airmatic is probably shot, but the car had been sitting a while and has not sagged. I tried raising/lowering the car and it worked just fine. Not sure why the pump is in the trunk, but a good bonus nonetheless.

Pulled the codes, since there was a CEL. Got the following:
P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire
P0306 - Cylinder 6 misfire
P2422 - Emission system vent valve stuck closed

I looked up the codes on the forum. Looks like the emissions code has to do with the charcoal canister. A replacement is around $400.

The misfire has me more worried. The car idled/ran fine for about 15 mins as I was looking at it. Warmed up to temp just fine. Anyone have any ideas what the misfire is all about? Could just need new plugs, who knows....

Other than that, I don't think it's a bad car for $10k

another items worth mentioning:
1. Buttons on the steering wheel are worn right trough to the plastic. Can those be replaced? They look like they are part of the airbag.

2. Buttons on the key are also worn right down. I think the key case/buttons can be replaced?

3. Most of the keyless go handles don't seem to respond. I got one handle to lock the car and another handle unlocked it. It could be a weak key battery, but I'm guessing the handles are done. The handles stopped working on my CLS when I still had it, but those handles had physical buttons. The handles on the S class are touch sensitive, so I don't know if they are as prone to failure?

4. Keyless go start button is missing. Are those interchangeable? Does it need to be ordered from the dealer like the key?

5. The bluetooth adapter from the center console is missing. Would need to buy one of those if needed.

6. The center console lid doesn't seem to like to close. It seems like the latch sticks... is that a common problem? Anyone try fixing it?

7. The sunroof motor is on it's last legs. I tried to open the sunroof, it started moving back, but then almost stopped dead half way through. I then pressed the button to close it and had to help it with my hand so it would close. I'm guessing changing out the sunroof motor is a huge job... This car has the pano roof option as well.

Honestly, the thing is a train wreck. It would literally make more financial sense to buy ten thousand scratch off lottery tickets.

Oh I'm not saying it can't be rehabilitated, just wondering how the numbers would make sense. What's the market for a 130k mile S?

Looks to be around $14k once it's in presentable condition....at least according to Alx's numbers.

ya $14k i would probably break even. I could drive it for a while and not worry about putting anymore miles on it... the only risk is that other items could break and cost more to fix
