Gentlemen I have a question for the group. Does the fluid in the Power Steering System ever mix with the fluid in the ABC System since both systems share the same pump?

I ask because I had my power steering fluid flushed today and the dealer originally said that I needed Pentosin which is what I was tracking I needed, however, they came back and said that they ended up using the regular MB Power Steering fluid because the fluid that came out looked like regular MB Power Steering fluid. I was uneasy about their decision to use regular MB fluid although they assured me that there would be no issues. I have been reading up on this ever since I returned from the dealer and everything that I've read says that the fluid should be Pentosin. I know how delicate the ABC System is and I just had the ABC fluid flushed and filters changed a couple of weeks ago and I want to ensure the regular Power Steering fluid is not going to contaminate the ABC System.

Should I have the Power Steering fluid drained and add Pentosin or will it be ok like the dealer told me?

Should be 0019892403 or Pentosin (Fluids attachment, page 10) in addition, see line 1 on ABC sheets.

Thanks for the helpful info. When the dealer flushed the ABC System a few weeks ago they refilled with Pentosin. When they flushed the power steering reservoir yesterday they refilled with MB Part # Q1460001 and told me that the fluid that came out looked like the regular power steering fluid although the manual said they should use Pentosin, therefore, they put regular power steering fluid back in. They told me there should be no issues.

Will the power steering fluid mix with the ABC fluid since both systems share the same pump or do I only need to have the dealer drain and refill the power steering reservoir with Pentosin?

I'm trying to determine if they have ruined the ABC fluid and filters that were just replaced a few weeks ago or if the ABC system is fine and they only need to address power steering resevoir?

Dealer told me ABC power steering fluid never needs to be replaced, obviously wrong.

The MB maintenance manual does not require the ABC or Power Steering fluid to be flushed. The manual only requires each system to be topped off as needed.

After reading through several MB forums over the years, it is clear that performing routine fluid changes every 3 to 5 years or 30-40K helps prolong the life of these delicate systems. Although there will always be exceptions, it seems as if those who perform more frequent fluid changes than what the manual recommends, tend to have fewer issues out of the ABC and Power Steering systems and the tandem pump lasts longer.
