Star Diagnostics in Phoenix Arizona
Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum. I have a 2013 Mercedes S350 Bluetech that will not start. The lights on the dash turn on when I turn my key but when I try to start it nothing happens. I kind of here the a click on my first attempt to start but on following attempts no sound. I had the battery checked at Autozone and they said the battery was good but is at its life quarter of life. I'm not sure what the issue is and I would like to know if there is anyone in the Phoenix, AZ area who has the Star Diagnostic system so that they can help me figure out the issue. I'm a big DIYer so I would really appreciate the help.

Thank you Alx for the response, are you located in Phoenix? If not do you know any reliable places I can buy star/das for a good price as I think it is a worthwhile investment?

Not a good investment unless you're a Benz dealer. I believe it costs over $20k. I think there are some Chinese clones that have limited capabilities and can easily brick your car if you make a mistake. It's best to spend the money to have it towed to the dealer if a battery charge doesn't do the trick.

if you are a big diy i recommend you get one - it will pay off the first time you use it. there is also plenty of info on the net on how to use it. if you are a techie you will get used to its logic very quickly.
dave is correct that you can brick the car, but this is rare and is usually associated with failed scn coding attempts (which normally your chinese clone is not capable of anyway).

For reading codes and most live data, you don't actually need a star DAS reader. I use an Autel MaxiDas which I believe is under a grand now and I've been able to pull every piece of info I needed from my car. Sure the Star can do more, but I've never felt limited by what the Autel can do. I've talked to some other folks who use equivalent dealer level scan tools and they work the same.
if you know anyone with a Modus or MaxiDas or MaxiSys or whatever else, it should be able to at least get you started with the basics, drive authentication, engine computer codes and live data, SAM modules, etc.
