2007 PPI Results
Hi,
Looking to finally pull the trigger on my first S Class. Found one, had a PPI completed and found a few things that concern me above and beyond the normal maintenance stuff.
Engine Oil Cooler and oil filter housing are leaking. Trying to ascertain the severity of the leak but how big of a repair is this and how much does this usually run?
Power stering reservoir leaking. Again same question.
Serpentine belt idler and tension squeaking. From my research, it seems that the original ones were prone to do this so my guess would be that it's still original. Is my line of thinking correct? And again same question as the first.
It it would seem to me these are pretty standard repairs for a 10 year old low use age car given it's under 75K miles. Just trying to get a sense as to how much damage $$$ I'm looking at and see if maybe these problems point to a bigger problem.
Thanks in Advance

Don't pull the trigger on that one. That car is right at the mileage where major things usually start to break. And that doesn't even include the things that are already wrong with it. You might spend $20k on that car, but it will likely cost you more than that in repairs over the next few years. Getting a decent warranty will be nearly impossible at that mileage....and a warranty is a must on an S-class, and especially an S600.
Spend a bit more and buy a low mileage example and get an exclusionary warranty. You can find them with under 50k miles for around $25k or less. With the higher cost and warranty cost, it'll still likely cost you less over 3 years than you're looking at with the car you're considering. Plus the lower mileage car will have much better resale value when you look to move on.

Yeah, one thing about the 600's, despite being relatively rare vs the 550, is that there always seems to be low mileage, one owner examples available. There's a mild price premium on them but it's money well spent. But regardless of mileage if you're not a very competent mechanic with deep pockets for parts, get a warranty.
