As a general rule in my garage, unless it's a sealed unit, I change the differential fluid every 30,000 miles, regardless of make/model. I'm an old school guy who believes that wherever we have metal-to-metal contact and it's moving (i.e.: gears/bearings), there's wear. Changing diff fluid is fairly straightforward, and what's the cost of a quart of fluid and 30 minutes work compared to potential wear down the road? IMHO. If it's sealed, there is little you can do. And yes, I prefer to change most fluids/filters a bit sooner than factory specs; just me. FWIW.
Cheers, Jeff
