22's too big for a W220 S55?

I'm sure they will fit, and that's not exactly what I'm wondering.

I want to at least get 20's to replace my 19's, but I started thinking what 22's would look like. Do they look too big? What do you guys think. Either way I'm not going chrome. I can't stand chrome wheels anymore, unless they were black chrome.

Can anyone post their pics with 22's so I can get an idea? Thanks

Oh btw, It's lowered too. I'll post pics later

I have 20's on my 04 s 55 and on the freeway at 60mph if the bump in the road is big enough, they will rub.. (the 20's are amg off a newer car) IMO there is no way you can go bigger...

There is no way 20's are too big...One size bigger, with keeping the tires the same aspect, you shouldn't rub. Maybe you should look at your suspension. Tire rack recommends 255 35 20, and 275 30 20. What did you go with?

In my humble opinion 22's would better suit the newer S class, not the W220 shape we have. I personally think 20's would look perfect.

My mate has an earlier S55 (2001 non-kompressor) and that has 20" Brabus tye alloys, to me it makes the car a little too butch, one of the reasons why i went from the standard 18's to just 19's on mine.

Well mine already has 19's..stock...and look good, but could be better. Plus I never stay stock so they have to go. Wasn't sure if 20's would look good enough since it's not much of a jump.

Anyone else?...

The problem we have with our stock wheels, and mine were identical to yours but in 18", is that the spokes dont go all the way to the edge and the tyres are usually a 40 series profile which makes them appear to be smaller than they actually are.

If you replace them with alloys that have a design whereby the spokes stretch all the way to the edge and put on a 30 series tyre you'll notice a massive difference even if the new ones are only just 1 inch bigger.

My rear tires are 275-30-20 and the front are 245-35-20 Im not 100% sure the car has not been lowered, But it will rub on the freeway with a big enough dip and a rear passenger...

Heh I have seen 18's that look like 16's and 17's that look like 19's. My 600 has 18's and yet they look 19's to me.22's too big for a W220 S55?-power-014.jpg

It appears better freeway design and maintenance or lower speeds would eliminate the rubbing! Seriously though, your 20's are the same diameter and width as the stock 19's I have and they never rub (245-49-19 and 275-35-19). Could be the 20's have a different rim width or offset, there is not much room for change on the W220.
A wider tire, but not taller can be used in the rear with proper offset wheels.
I did see a W220 on 22's over in LA several months ago. It appeared to have about 35 and 30 series tires, definitely not 25's. The owner had raised the entire car to clear the larger diameter tires. In my opinion it looked silly and defeated the purpose of adding the larger wheels

Mine are the stock 2006 S65 AMG wheels. Is it possible the W221 wheels have a different offset than the W220? I have never checked the data to see if they are the same. I have already spent more than enough money on the S65 even without changing wheels!

They will fit but I think you will be buying new rims every week. There will be little to no tire on the rims.

Can anyone tell me the difference between my wheels and those of the W220 S65? Are they made different, or is it just the paint?

W220 S55 CL55 and S65 wheels are the same size and offset, but only the 65's got the different color centers in darker grey...they are interchangable on the cars.
For my opinion 22" wheels will look like DUB city....not really what is needed on a Mercedes....great for chryslers and Impalas though...haha.

So I could just paint my wheels and be done with it? The S65 wheels are the color I'd like to find, and I do think they look great. Not sure if I can stay stock though...

The data I have says the '05 and'06 SL,S, and CL65's came with gray center 19"twin spokes. It shows the S55 with silver center 18" twin spokes. I recall some dealers offered 19" silver center twin spokes as a pricey option. The SL wheels do not interchange with the S. Original gray center twin spokes remain expensive and not in plentiful supply. Aftermarket is probably the best choice and more alternatives.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I think I want to go with a concave wheel anyhow. I could always paint my wheels gray like the 65's wheels down the road and sell them;-)
