2001 S55 AMG, 5.4L V8

Hi all,

I just picked up an S55, looking for some performance mods...uh the ones I have come across are ridiculously over priced. Can anyone point me in a direction or have a suggestion on what to do to a NA 5.4? I just picked up some mufflers and am considering building my own headers and wrapping them... Ideas?

not to be a wisea$$, but I'd sell it and buy an 03 s55 with the supercharger. It will be cheaper by far in the long run vs. doing a mod schedule on your 01, and much more mod friendly with better result. It may be quick enough stock you won't even want to mod. For a few months.

Well it's what I got, traded straight across for a 2001 f150 crew cab 4x4...I don't need to make crazy power with it just wondering what mods to do, if I wanted to get crazy power I'd of gotten a fox body and made a 8 sec strip car out of it

I think you have the right idea with headers & exhaust, a ECU tune might help as well.

So let's say you find some tuner that makes headers for the NA S55. Apply the normal MB price premium and you are probably around 2k. Exhaust, another 1.5-2k. Tune, another 1k. You are at 5k and you may have gained 65hp, but I doubt it. Assume install is free because you do it yourself. Right now on autotrader I see at least three sets of examples of similar mileage s55's with about a 3k price differential between the 01NA and the 03SC. So you get a car 2 years newer, with an extra 125hp and Tq, for less than the price of the mods. Not to mention the resale will be better because you have not molested the car. The time you spent collecting parts and installing them would be greater than time to sell and buy new car. I disagree with your thesis "it's what I got", because that is not a static state. The lack of responses to your query is a sign of the availability of performance options for that ride. Anyone else care to chime in here? If I'm wrong, I'm wrong...I just haven't seen lots of options for the S55NA platform.

I gotta agree with Zax on this one...if its more power you want, just do a good detail on you NA S55 and go trade it on an SC model and maybe pay a couple grand boot...ive spent tons of time and money in the past to try to improve on performance and you never ever get it back out...My 2 cents anyway.

I DO agree with your OP of selling the N/A S55 to purchase a S55K, I was was just adding my opinion to the OP's scenario. Force induction is always easier to build power vs N/A but, I didn't know there was barely anything available (aftermarket wise) for the non Kompressor 55 AMG's.
