Transmission jerk/lurch

Howdy, I am having an issue during cold weather start ups where the transmission lurches after the 1 to 2 shift during the converter lock up. It does it again during the 2 to 3 shift but is more mild after that. I have searched the forums and several have had the same issue but thy never seen to post the solution. If you let off the gas it feels like it is directly coupled like a stick shift. After 5 minutes or so wh it warms up, it shifts totally fine. I assume one of the solinoids is sticking in the valve body.

My guess is something is telling the converter to lock up ant the incorrect time.

A fluid and filter change by the dealership did not help.

Suggestions?

Wouldn't hurt to check the mount. My mount looked fine, no rips, but still had hesitation. Other than that, from what I have found, hard shifting is normal in these cars in the cold.

Could just be the cold weather.

Hopefully the transmission fluid level is sufficient.

Is your setting in Comfort or Sport mode?

N/A
While I don't have the exact same issue, I notice that I have a 2-1 downshift hard jerk when in Sport mode and when it's cold. Once I get into the drive for about 5-7 minutes, it seems to go away. But it is a hard downshift in Sport on cold mornings. Wonder if it's related to your issue?

This ^^^^^^^

When were the transmission mounts last replaced

Most people do not give their car time to warm up

in cold weather - I let it warm up until the idle

drops to normal

The Trans mount is fresh and a fluid change did not help. After reading about the same issue in the 275 section it appears to be the TCC PWM solenoid.

I am working on getting the torque converter clutch solenoid now. Hope to see if that fixes it. Will update in a week or so.

No codes at all and the symptoms remained after resetting the shift adaptations and changing the fluid.

I'd get the motor mounts checked. That IS the source of my hard shifting. I'm changing them soon.

I would try to shift manually on a cold start up to see if you get the same thing.

It even does it in manual. If you hold it in first it bangs hard when the converter locks up. When you shift to second it lurches again. A bit softer in third and much more mild into fourth. I think it tapers off because the gear splits are so much tighter in the higher gears. It is definitely an issue with the lockup function in the converter.

FlightTest I have the exact same issue with my W221 S65. Torque converter locks up very abruptly when cold, and then the issue disappears once the car warms up....which takes 6-8 miles. I had my Indy reflash the transmission module which helped the issue, but it still hits too hard (just not quite as hard as before) when the car is cold. Please keep us posted with your results.
