So far i love the car but I don't know if I want to keep daily driving it and wear it out. The dension unit is covered in deep deep detail on the benzworld w220 section. Basically it replaces the 6CD changer and it mounts in the glovebox, and you can have aux, BT etc and some units even allow steering wheel functions. Personally I'm just looking for the aux as i like to control it straight off my phone. and that DVD was my initial solution when I got the car haha but these days I mostly use live music streaming (spotify) so it makes it difficult

Good stuff re: Dension. Thanks. That changer is more or less dead weight these days, so much so that I hadn't thought about it in years. The Dension units make sense. I see that some of them interface with the OEM car unit. I may look into it as well, although I rarely drive mine anymore either.

Cheers,

Some updates; Car is still running great! Just did a 5 hour trip an back to miami this weekend, as always i didnt even feel the drive. The comfort and the speed was amazing. These road trips always remind me how much I love the car. I also decided that it is not a good "city car" and it is really meant for long drives or highway use. Im planning on doing a muffler delete soon, got some ypipes. I also got a programa lowering module so that will be done soon as well. I really want to tune the car but seeing its older and the mileage (72k now) I really don't want to mess with reliability and all. Heres a pic from miami;

I also have an instagram page for my cars give me a follow! @akmatic_amg

Everyone with knowledge on wheels i need help!!

Long story short, all 4 rims are bent and can't be fixed to 100%. I have all new tires that I want to keep, so I plan on getting some aftermarket wheels instead of paying top dollar for OEM replacements or even 2-3k for a used set. I know the stocks have a 48 offset in the front and 60 in the rear. Various websites online list 35 offset for this car but it doesn't sound right. Which offsets can I get away with without rubbing? Also going to install the programa lowering module so I don't want rubbing to be a issue. thanks!

the tire rack and many other wheel sellers say that their 35-45ET offset wheels will fit our cars, as their computers are using data for the S55 which has a different offset than the S65. Their computers are wrong. I have had to send 2 or 3 sets of wheels back to people who promise that they will fit. I have called Tire Rack and they insist that I am wrong. I have tried and tried to find a replacement at a reasonable price. I almost bought a set of Forgestars in a 20 inch diameter with custom offsets, but the shop I was talking to got cold feet when they started looking into the fitment and was worried about not getting it quite right and having to own a set of 20s they could never ever resell. In the end I just found a spare set of S65 wheels and sent them to Detroit Wheel and Tire for a complete rebuild. They are pretty much the best looking wheel for the car, and I couldn't fall in love with any other design. I bought a beaten up pair of snow s65 wheels for 800 bucks and I think I spend 400 or so a wheel on a complete rebuild/repaint.

I also had CCW make me a custom set of rears for drag radials with a 55 ET offset, they fit and fill the wells nicely, so I know a 55ET will work, maybe even a 52 or 3. There are a few aftermarket rims that come with that rear offset, I just didnt want to chance it. Oh, and I think you may be a bit off on the fronts being 48s, but that's just off the top of my head. I thought they were 44's or 46's.

Any 19" or 20" wheel that fits the front of an S55 W220 will fit an S65. The rear is a different story. A 9.5" wheel with a 50 offset might fit with a 275 tire, it will be real close. If you want a 10.5" wheel I think the offset needs to be at least 60 if you plan on a 295 or 305 tire.

https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator

Per the owners manual.
Rear:
19 x 9.5 - 60mm
275/35/19
Front:
19 x 8.5 - 44mm
245/40/19

You should be able to run a 10" wheel at 55mm offset. That allows the extra ~1/2 inch (12mm) of wheel to be outboard. I lowered my car and there is still space. The inside is wheel edge is close to the rear strut.

I see, thanks for the input everyone! I would love to have my rims restored but i drive the car daily and i would end up need replacement rims during the down time anyways. Also the rims i liked (niche turin) only come in a maximum 50 et at 19x9.5. Im going to be keeping the 275 tires, but being the michelin super sports they tend to be a bit fatter. I guess ill keep searching for another style rim... maybe replicas of the w221 s65 split spoke in 19"

SO update- found a shop that guarantees to fix the rims for $80 a rim for the bends or $150 a rim for a full refurbish to remove curb rash etc. They seem to have a good reputation, I'm going to go check the shop out soon

Update on the wheel situation- I ended up having that shop (Bent rim repair orlando) do the work and nearly perfect. Still a very small vibration but way better and I feel like its probably due for an alignment. $350 to fix bends in all 4 wheels. Brand new Pirelli Super sports in the rear. Drives amazing still.

My programa lowering module is still sitting around, haven't gotten around to getting it installed and have since changed my mind and want to sell it if anyone is interested!

All good decisions and moves. I hope you can get your money back on that module. Congrats,

Hey guys. Ran into a recent issue- I was leaving work a few weeks ago, i started the car immediately ABC light came on. I freaked out got out the car, it was fine normal height nothing weird. Restarted the car, it went away and never came back. Later that night, the car started making this weird humming vibration noise, I didnt even remember the ABC light incident or thought it would be related. I truly thought that maybe my cat went bad or something cause of the noise.

There was no CEL or any lights on. A few searches led me to seemingly the exact cause with the symptoms and all- ABC Accumulator. Ordered the part (2203270215) off eEuroparts.com for $178 shipped.

I have yet to get it installed. Haven't driven the car much the past few weeks because I don't want to make anything worse and I don't have time to take it to a shop. Will report back once I get it done!

That should take care of it. One of mine had perished as well, and of course it's not fatal to anything, provided your fluid has been cared for (meaning changed and filtered). The humming noise will continue at low RPM, and occasionally the system will sense a lack of pressure as a result of it (especially as temps drop) -- the ABC light you saw, which causes all of us to skip one heart beat. The accumulator is a quick and easy fix and should remedy the fault.

Please do follow up and let us know though.

Cheers,

maw
