'06 S55 weird questions

Brand new member...joined moments ago. I have an S55 that has a very, very slight burnt odor in the interior--at first I thought it was the leather but my nose tells me it seems like something is dripping on the engine and somehow ending up in the car. At the same time, the steering wheel just started making subtle groaning sounds when I turn the wheel while moving, although it is perfectly quiet while driving in a straight line. So does this sound like an issue of just topping off the tranny fluid--I don't know how to do this yet--or should I have my german mechanic (Porsches etc)flush the system, change filters etc. The car is extremely clean and well-cared for with 53K miles. Help, I've never had an AMG or a benz before and hope I haven't gotten in over my head.

That doesn't seem like transmission to me. More likely the tandem pump that drives the power steering fluid around the system. Get it in and have it looked at, like yesterday.

Any idea what that pump would go for, if it needs to be replaced?

Sorry, I do not. But I wouldn't expect it to be cheap -- disassembly labor to get to it. The upside of that is, it's a good time to replace other stuff that in there (water pump, wobbly pulleys, etc.). I won't speculate any further because a mechanic I am not, and you really want someone qualified to deal with your car, again, like yesterday. If it's the tandem pump, it also runs the ABC system, so you don't want one fowling the other, for instance.

Good luck,

maw

But while you're in there, do take a look at your water pump, your crank and idler pulleys, and consider changing the supercharger oil. All of these are wear items, and the car is 10 years old at this point.

Good luck,

Great advice that you should heed if you "don't want to be in over my head"

I would take it in a.s.a.p.

There are many threads on this forum regarding the

cost of ABC repairs

Maintaining the AMG should be done right

Congrats on your new car

Now how about some pictures

Thank-You

2005 AMG S55
I am a newbie as well. I just got my first. A 2005 S55 amg with 68k on it. The previous owner did alot of work on the car. He did replace the tandem pump and the accumulators for the suspension at the same time. Also he did the blower pulley bearings and coolant pump. You may as well do it all at the same time to save some money on maintenance labor cost.

S65 AMG
Sounds like ABC fluid leak. It is a light greenish fluid and sort of smells like spent gun powder.
