RPM redline?
I noticed my tach does not have a redline. What is the redline for the M275's?
Do all Merc's not have the red dash on their tachs or just certain models?

5200 RPM. I'm not sure about all Mercs, or even all AMG's. There are subtle differences in the readout based upon the model of car. For instance, on the E55k cars, the tach and speed cluster were in italicized print, which seemed a bit boy racer to me and is one reason I got the S55. I don't need my MB subtly upping my adrenaline. I have an M3 for that.

Seems a bit low to me as well, but I'm just going on what the link said. Power slams off at 5200 RPM. I looked on the AMG Private Lounge and found nothing, actually, which is a bit strange. I certainly can't say I've seen mine higher than that, and I've seen over 130mph in 3rd gear. MB standard seems to be around 6100 RPM, if I judge from my 500E.
From the AMG Private Lounge...
"The AMG 6.0-liter V12 bi-turbo engine boasts a very special set of technological credentials. No other series-produced engine in this displacement class is able to match the output and torque of the twelve-cylinder powerplant which is built in Affalterbach where it was also developed. Featuring a displacement of 5,980 cc the motor delivers 604 hp which are available between 4800 and 5100 rpm. The maximum torque of 738 lb-ft comes in at 2000 rpm already and is constantly available up to 4000 rpm. What is even more impressive is, that 420 lb-ft of torque are available at a mere 1000 rpm already, rising to 612 lb-ft at just 1500 rpm."
But for the 55...
"Lift the hood on the S 55 AMG, and look at the supercharged AMG 5.5-liter V8 engine that delivers 493 hp at 6,100 rpm and a net torque of 516 lb-ft from 2,750 to 4,000 rpm."
That's as close as I can get. Which makes a point by the way... you can always slam it to the floor and take note of when it shifts. I've never done it from zero, but punching it from 80mph she went to 3rd and didn't shift until I let off at over 130mph. I didn't notice the tach though.

This what it says in the owners manual, p424, Technical Data, Engine, Maximum engine speed:

S430: 6000
S500: 6000
S55 : 6500
S600: 5950
S65 : 5950
The rev counter on my S600TT is red-lined at 5900.

Also from the manual...
"The tachometer of the S 55 AMG and S 65 AMG does not have a red marking denoting excessive engine speed. To help protect the engine, the fuel supply is interrupted if the engine is operated at an excessive engine speed."
Life gets easier when you can run a search for "engine speed" in a PDF rather than pulling out the book...
