Stupid cheap s65

Stupid cheap s65
I love Mercedes but I am aware of quality issues with some of the newer models. Please everyone check ebay......there is a 2006 S65 with under 50K miles for a stupid cheap price.....it appears to be a no reserve auction but the car was already sold if you do an ebay search. OK the ABC light is on, so that means add 8K to the price....but something is wrong...or should I buy the car? I am only posting this here because i know all you guys already have one of these AMG monsters....I have been the cheapskate with a 1993 600SL that I paid 70 grand for in 1997 with 25K miles, and now has 75K miles......I pay my indie about $2K a year for maintenance issues......just had to re-weld new metal under the doors due to rust from car originating in Michigan, also had to replace all the Orings in the top hydraulics- car is a work of art and has the HP of my Testarossa but if I can add an AMG to my collection for a stupid price and i can afford a couple of grand a year in maintenance......time for everyone to chime in...I have 6 days to make a decision.

I found it...

That car looks like a disaster waiting to happen. Considering it's been bid to 15 and 17k and is still running, I am guessing there's more wrong with it than they let on. The body kit looks like crap and the front bumper is barely on, it's probably been crashed pretty hard before.
There is a saying about the most expensive thing you can buy is a cheap mercedes...

I'm only writing this as a good forum member, as that "car" is a complete waste of time. Not even worth the time to type this. The front quarter is what doesn't fit. The whole driver side seems to have been wiped out. Note how the rear driver door is "wavy" and the S65 lettering is off. The wheels are cheap tirerack replicas, not the real 2-piece forged AMG wheels. I could go on. It's not a disaster waiting to happen -- the disaster has already happened, and you're looking at it. As far as whether the engine and trans are worth the price, not likely.

The car won't be 6k, it will get bid up like it has in the past...
I am a tech at an MB dealer. I quoted out two ABC system repairs today. If there's a fault, it can be very, very bad. Odds are, it's never been maintained. So once you start getting failures, you end up changing a lot of things. You could pick up the other one on ebay for 19K OBO, for probably 16-17, and not have one that has been crashed and put back together with a Chinese body kit.

"All the king's horses and all the king's men..."
That car is not "together", and I wouldn't even insult the Chinese for that kit. It's simply the worst collision (read "salvage") repair I've ever seen. I know guys who run salvage cars back together all day every day (including Sunday). This one is just horrible. I kinda wish they were parting it out though, because I'd take some of the interior bits (the leather stitched and alcantara bits that are 65 only).
Cheers,

Yes, only the Black Series have coilover suspensions. But there is no S-Class AMG Black. From AMG:
"Completely new design for AMG coil-over sports suspension
When it comes to the chassis, the AMG experts have put their faith in a new design. The AMG sports chassis has been designed with coil-over suspension – this solution, which has been proven in the realm of motor sports, makes it possible to adjust the pressure and flow rates of the shock absorbers and vehicle level, as well as the track and camber. Drivers can configure their own personal suspension setup, especially for use on the race circuit. Both axles feature newly developed spring links and thrust, camber and tension rods, as well as optimum weight aluminium wheel carriers. Compared with the series production SL 65 AMG, the Black Series has 115 mm more track width on the front axle, and 103 mm more on the rear axle. The new front axle kinematics creates a steering ratio which is eight percent more direct, and the completely revised elasto-kinematics ensures greater steering precision. The result: light-footed, predictable handling."
Obviously, the S and SL cars are completely different concepts and productions. The coilover setup appears purpose engineered for the Black Series SL, so i doubt (but cannot confirm) that many suspension parts interchange across to the S chassis, like the R129/W124.036/W140 cars used to. But ABC works for this car, seems to me.

Looks like it would completely fall apart within 50 miles.
The star emblem isn't even straight on the grille....

This car was for sale even a year and a half ago when I bought my S600. I talked to the guy briefly about it. I believe it was a hurricane Sandy car, flood and cosmetic damage. At the time, he was willing to sell it for $6,000. I was originally interested just as a race car project but flood car and Mercedes don't usually play well together.
