Engine Start Button Sticking

Hi,
Can anything be done with an Engine Start button on shifter knob that sticks a bit once pressed (such as clean/lubricate the button)?!?

I'm told I can buy a new shifter knob which obviously is swapped out very easily, BUT you can almost never match the exact grain of wood and color, what with sun fading over the years etc etc (I'm very particular!)

Thanks

Hey there. I just bought my 2006 S55 yesterday and the button was sticking. I found one in a junk yard for $75 and when I went there it was a perfect match (the wood and the black leather). The guy installed it and it's working great! My old knob didn't look like anything could be done to it.

Would this be removing the shifter first? Or how (once removed)?
Thx

I would absolutely take it off before using WD40.. though I wouldn't do that myself, it may be a temporary fix. If memory serves me my cost on a new knob is about $260 for KLG, but I just found a used one for $75 at a junk yard and it was a perfect match. You may try to do the same, or just pop for the new one, they do get used a lot...

I did not remove shifter. I cleaned around the button and then applied using a q tip. Then poked around with a tooth pick. If you have a tougher button then obviously this method would not work well and replacing may be a better option.
