Wondering if I go for a 2015, what I potentially could be missing out on? Anything major?
Any known issues with the 2015 cars?

There is very little difference between coupes from MY15-16-17. That - and about $50,000 - was why I ultimately bought a pre-owned MY15 instead of ordering a new MY17. The drivetrain, engines, COMAND software, exterior, and interior are identical.
For MY16, a few Edition-1 exclusives became available as options (i.e. Swarovski headlamps, red leather interior). MBrace was upgraded with Connect. Nothing else changed.
For MY17, the broadband radio was upgraded to LTE, exterior trunk release was added, and there were a few new cosmetic options (night styling and porocelain/blue interior leather). And also of course cabriolet variant appeared.
I've read the sedan gets refreshed from MY18 and the coupe MY19. Exterior changes are limited to the usual i.e. redesigned bumpers and lights, so the cars will look about the same. Inside, there will be a new CANBUS system and COMAND software, seamless higher resolution displays without the intervening column of buttons, and updated steering wheel controls and touchpad - all the tech now in the new E class.
S63 gets an engine downsize to the 4L V8TT from the upcoming E63, and there will be a new V12TT for the S65, which will also get 4MATIC. At least the S63 will get the 9sp transmission.
However... my dealer (high volume, moves a lot of AMGs) says he is only aware of the usual mid-cycle refresh i.e. bumpers and lights. I was expecting some of the new E class tech to appear in the Maybach S650 - which would have confirmed upcoming changes - but the photos released show the exact same displays and controls as the current S Coupe. While official word from M-B/AMG seems to lag information on the web, it is possible they will not completely redo the car's electronic guts until a full redesign in several years.
The 4L is a great engine although the owner of a local performance shop I've used thinks it will be a downgrade for the S63, given its inherently lower torque on a nearly 2.5 ton car... analogous to when the AMG 5.5L supercharged powerplant was 'upgaded' to the N/A 6.2L. He is acheiving 722hp/1000NM on the 5.5L V8TT with catless downpipes and ECU flash with custom dyno tune, on 91 pump gas. Of course, in stock form no doubt the basic performance figures will be at least as good as the current engine, at least in published figures i.e. 0-60mph.
On the other hand, while the current V12TT in the S65 is a fantastic engine, it is an older design with a lot of headroom for improvement. With a redesigned engine making over 700hp, and expected addition of 4MATIC, the S65 should be a real monster and (finally) justify its price premium over the S63.

Thx for the write up Heisenberg, it indeed sums it all up.
Mainly because of the 5.5L V8 I decided to make the jump this year to a MY17 S63. The 4L V8 of course is a great engine too, but, as they say on your side of the Ocean, "there is no substitute for cubic inches", and I agree that the more torque the better with such a heavy car.
4WD is also great to have on such a car, it makes the huge performance also usable / deliverable on a daily basis. The S65 4Matic will be some car then....and with the upcoming downsizing of the S63, the price difference more logical.
Love the MCT transmission BTW, I drive it in manual most of the time, and then it is great (in Comfort it is ok for cruisin, but not always up to speed, in Sport it is responsive, but sometimes too nervous), will be interesting to see if the "normal" auto box (9 speed) offers the same experience when driving in Manual (used to drive Manuals for many years, and S-tronic DSG/DCT boxes when no manual was available).
Enjoy driving safely and merry xMas!

I wouldn't rule out a 4.0 TT. Look at how tuned Audi 4.0 TT engines, especially on the RS7, are smoking everything in sight. That said, I still suspect the MB 4.0 TT at 600hp will come maxed out vs the current 5.5 which leaves a lot of HP on the table for tuners to extract.
