2014 GLK 250 bluetec AdBlue warning

I bought a new 2014 GLK 250 bluetec last week and encountered the following problem before filling up first tank of diesel:
AdBlue warning light came on with Starts Remaining: 4. I brought it in to the dealer and they said there was some computer problem which has been fixed but kept it overnight to test it out more. Anyone else experienced this problem?

BTW, the "Starts Remaining" keeps going down after each start until 0. This is my first bluetec - didn't realize there would be these additional hassles.

Would love to know more details when the dealer finds the issue.

These "hassles' are supposed to be hidden from the user each time you do an oil change at a dealership.

This is a brand new car with only 380 miles on it so not sure why there would be a computer glitch - Mercedes needs to do something about their quality control or prepping of new cars.

Ad Blue Message

It may have been missed at assembly and not filled up. You can open the filler cap and see the fluid level, if it's near full.

Under "normal" conditions, you should receive a message that the DEF is getting low and needs to replenished, somewhere around 1k to 1.5k miles until the limited amount of starts counter takes over.

Yes, there are some hassles with the diesel, but that's just the price to pay for the improved fuel economy. I'm at about 5k miles (in less than 2 months!) and have not had a tank average below 36 mpg.

Hope you get it resolved soon and back on the road, enjoying your new car!

Let us know what the dealer has to say.

First, a software/computer problem isn't really subject to quality control, no more than the glitches we all experience on our personal computers. If it didn't show up until after 300+ miles how would quality control catch that?

Second, the response that with diesels you have to 'expect' problems us totally disingenuous. I've been a diesel freak for well over 35 years, along with owning gassers, and there are far more problems with the gassers than the diesels. I've owned more gassers than the 6 or 7 diesels I've owned, and I still own an '85, so don't talk to me about expected diesel problems.

Electrical/computer problems happen even at home and while it's disappointing to have any problem with a new car, we have to anticipate that possibility. It's unfortunate that it happened, and worse, such a computer problem can be even more difficult to sort out than, say, a leak in you AddBlue tank. It's particularly so when it's not a common problem. Good luck on getting your dealer to sort it out. It will be dependent on the analytical skills of the technician that works on it, simply because it isn't a common problem

Mine is my second BueTec. I have yet to experience ANY problem with anything, and it's certainly not a common problem. If it were there would already be a fix.

I can't begin to express how happy I am with mine, my second BlueTec.

I got the car back today. The service guy said that he suspects that the dealer that sold me the car didn't calibrate the AdBlue sensor when they prepped the car. The fluid level was fine though the sensor thought it was low - strange that a sensor would think it was low when it was full. Service added 1/4 tank gas and drove it 40mi to make sure everything was fine.

Dealer's don't do that type of work in dealer prep. That's usually something that takes place at the factory. Dealers do detailing and cleanup. That IS the fault of the factory.

Glad you got it fixed. Good luck and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine!

Hopefully, no more surprises. Other than that, we like it, especially the gas mileage and the power of the engine.

Hmmm, just picked up mine Wednesday and now mine says 10 starts remaining. Time to call the dealer.

On a side note, wondering who will be first to be brave enough to try out the adblue emulators to disable the need for adblue

Ours came with the yellow check engine light when we were leaving a parking lot. Shortly after the ADblue warning came on, indicating 10 starts remaining. We had 840 miles driven at that time. We returned the car to the dealer the next day. They found the ADblue tank at normal level and are doing technical checks with Germany. It's been with the dealer for two days now and we don't have a resolution yet. On the bright side, they have communicated with me regularly and provided a loaner for while I'm without my vehicle. I'll post the outcome when I have it.

I had a free loaner for the one day that the Calabasas dealership was servicing my car to figure out the adblue problem. I'm surprised yours is taking 2 days.

Got it fixed today. In at 8:30 AM and they had it fixed by noon. They checked Adblue level, tried resetting, tested for low flow, removed injector to measure flow, checked pump delivery pressure, pressure tested system for leaks, recalibrated fill level, checked for intake leaks and air filters for contamination. All checks within spec but the fault codes remained.

Problem was fixed by performing SCN coding of the SCR module. Maybe the factory forgot to code the SCR module to our VINs. All seems fine now. Will let everyone know if the problem comes back.

Well, not so lucky. Check engine light came on this morning. Back at the dealer (who have been great!) this afternoon. Dunno if it's the same problem or not.

At about 150 miles we had the first "check engine" Adblue problem, then again at about 350 miles and now for the third time at about 750 miles. Car is currently at the dealership and has been there for two week. MB factory tech spent two days with the car and sent all the info back to Germany.

urghh, keep up informed. MB should just start giving out the secret codes to disable to adblue. This would be a nightmare if it happened during a vacation

Well, the CEL turned into the starts remaining count down. Gonna leave my GLK at the dealer and get a loaner until the problem is resolved. (Unless there is a secret code to disable the count down.) Hope Germany finds a fix quick.

MB Germany will have had the data for our car three weeks this Thursday. Dealer called today and said that they hope to have something from the factor in a day or so. Dealer had been great, they gave us with a 2013 GLK 350 until ours is fixed.

Well, picked up my GLK (with a full tank of fuel...Yay!). Dealer had it for three days. They received updated reset procedures from MB Germany, which they performed, and took it out on multiple test drives and no warning lights/messages appeared. Hope this fixes the issue...keeping my fingers crossed.

Our 2014 GLK 250 has 2800 miles. Three weeks ago ck engine light came on followed by "Remaining Starts: 10" We called Viti, they sent a loaner and picked up vehicle. Returned it the following day saying a software update was done. One week later on way to airport same scenario. Vehicle was picked up last week. Was told GLK needed an exhaust temp sensor. Waited a couple of days for that to come in and was then told problem was not fixed. Last word was waiting for software update from MB. We've been one week without new vehicle. Viti has been very responsive, picking up and leaving loaner and staying in touch with us. We were a little disappointed that our vehicle was driven 200 miles and no fuel was added the first time. We'll see how it's returned this time.

GLK250 Issues

Love the car...hate to post anything negative about the car..BUT, I also have the same issues that others are experiencing. My engine and adblue light on with 6 remaining starts. Dealer in Bloomington, Minnesota has had the car one week along with another car with the same problem.

Not a good way to start the MB relationship with previous Audi and BMW owner. Any specific suggestions that I can forward to the tech? They say they are waiting for a fix from MB. If they know what the fix is, why is it taking so long?

Our car has been at the dealer going on 4 weeks for the same problem. Only info out of the dealership is that it is a software problem and MB is working on it. This is our third MB but I don't think that I would buy another one.

wow 4 weeks? Sounds like the dealer is trying to mik mbusa for diagnotics/repair costs? I fear for the same problem in my 250, the more complex these systems are, the more likely problems come up

Could you imagine dealing with this out of warranty!
