I am pretty much set on the options I'd like to have except for the color. I know it is subjective but would like find out what your opinions are
on polar white vs diamond white. The extra cost of about $1500 is a minor concern but not my main one.

Is there other reasons why you would choose one over the other? shininess? durability? reflection in different light of the day? whatever it is , I'd like to know what your thoughts are.

Btw, the panorama roof is a must have for me because I like the white/black contrast. I am a bit conservative so night style package ,black rear spoiler, black cross-spoke rims are too much black for me.

Diamond white gets my vote.


I've had it for over 3 years on my C204 and still absolutely love it and is my favourite MB/AMG colour, my next purchase will also be in diamond white


I much prefer it over Polar white because of the pearl/metallic effect which in my eyes gives it character and looks stunning under sunlight compared with the plain or solid colour of Polar white.


It's also a very easy colour to live with as like silver it hides surface blemishes, dust etc. which are an absolute pain of a problem with darker colours.

I second that completely. Although color on any car is preference more than anything, when it comes to a Mercedes I'd go diamond white any day. Although I must say I couldn't resist buying mine in black hehe

Polar white is very flat and ultra bright. The bigger the car the worse it looks IMHO. It has little substance compared to Diamond White which has a great finish and looks way nicer on the car.

I am told Diamond white is the most popular MB colour worldwide at the moment. There are problems getting this colour in certain markets. For example the C63 right now for Australia is difficult to get any time soon in Diamond White. Dealers even trying to change unfrozen allocations to Diamond White are getting rejected when they go to try and change it and have to push out the order to get that colour.

Colour is subjective and it seems to be the thing we all agonise over the most. I have gone with Polar White as I believe the "starkness" provides a great contrast with the Edition 1 pack. IMO, the Diamond White has a slight beige/yellow tinge to it in some lights. However, I also think subjectively that the metallic element of the Diamond White gives the car a more "upmarket" look. Either way, you can't go wrong...

I believe it comes down to personal preference. Like myself if you like the black/white contrast with NSP, black wheels, c/f spoiler polar white looks better IMHO.
I currently also drive a Ford Explorer which has the Diamond white color so I don't want both vehicles to have identical colors. I disagree that it hides blemishes because my wife is always complaining that it is dirty .
If you go thru this forum you will find that a lot of people had a tough decision to make when it came down to pick the color because it looks fantastic in all.

Diamond White is certainly a more interesting white. I had a similar color on a 2010 CTS-V and it looked very good. The only downside is repair. My understanding is that paint matching for Diamond White is very difficult and expensive. Thus, if you do get that color, just make sure you never need any paint work ;-)

Asking for an opinion on something so subjective.....my 0.02

I prefer Polar White, I've owned both (Diamond and Polar). There are 2 main reasons:

1. Diamond looks tan/cream/yellowy/dirty unless in direct sunlight and I don't prefer that look.
2. Diamond is VERYYYYYYYYYY difficult to match if ever you need paint work. Heck, even touching up a small spot is nearly impossible as the flake in the touch up paint never looks identical to the paint from the factory.

You'll need to decide what you prefer and just roll with it.

I think Diamond is a smokin' hot color but I ordered Polar for the two reasons above.

Here is a video showing the color, its from MB AMG, sadly, the color I truly want "brilliant blue" is not an option, so I am opting for the diamond white as well.

By way of comparison, I look at the Diamond White similarly to Lexus Pearl White or Caddy's Pearl White as well (Caddy's has a lil more yellow in it) . The Polar is like looking at a 92 brightness sheet of paper...............

The above has seemingly been the case forever with MB's and diamond white, when I ordered my C204 back in late 2011 I was told there's a Worldwide shortage of this colour LOL

That's not entirely true.


I know of and have used myself for my boot lip spoiler a Mercedes Benz only specialist repair shop and they do a perfect match to smashed/damaged or parts accessories to MB's with diamond white duco using original OEM and other product I've seen lots of them to date including mine all done and matched perfectly, they use a specialist computer imaging matching system and then make up an exact copy of the original as not all finishes on individual cars with diamond white or any other colour are exactly the same anyway to begin with.


FYI diamond white gets its special finish from the clear coat, that's where the pearlescent finish and the slight beige colour/effect is, the base paint without the clear coat is almost identical to polar white - all people who own a diamond white MB have a look inside the door frames etc. and you'll see what I'm talking about.


I'm sure if need be people can find a good paint shop in their area that can do the same

I agree with HoustonT.

Diamond White doesn't look white, it looks creamy. And more creamy on an overcast day, which you may have few of in SoCal. Polar White looks clean and bright, like a sexy nurse costume on Halloween.

I strongly considered Diamond White and spent time comparing the two in different daylight conditions. I wanted to get Diamond White because it was fancier, but in the end I decided it would be a better color for my older neighbour's Lexus and I'm going Polar White.

Great to know, I never thought it would be in the clear coat. My shop does a lot of work for a large M-B dealer so next time I'm there I'll ask them about refinishing Diamond White. I really like that color.

The only thing I wish the polar white has is the extra coat of pearl. The diamond white does look a bit too yellowish for me.

Old thread but thanks for all the info. I'm currently debating if I want to spend the extra $3k (AUD) or thereabouts on the diamond white on a GLC250d vs just polar white. My wife thinks white with the night pack (blacked out chrome) would look good and I agree since it looks a bit like my previous Evo X (white with black accents). Only thing we haven't yet agreed on is whether polar white or diamond white is the way to go.

Mate, Diamond white is the way to go. Polar white even on a C wagon makes the car look big, on a GLC it would be worse. The bigger the car you have, the better off you are with darker colours so it doesn't look big and frumpy. Have you seen a white Q7 for example? For white, Diamond white softens the car. It's worth the extra money. Go look at both side by side and the difference is very obvious.

I've seen Diamond white on a ML, looks great.
