Trans service
Hi Folks, I have a 2012 S550 4Matic with 30K miles. Getting the oil changed tomorrow, and can also have the transmission serviced at that time as well. Should I wait until 40K miles or just do it now. Just did the filters myself and cabin filters as well. Indy wants 119 for the oil change and 399 for the tranny service. I have the factory MB warranty until 75K miles so don't want to do anything to jeopardize the warranty as the car is 4 years old and the dealer recommended it at 4 years. Anything else I should do other than the oil change. Differential service or anything else? Going to do the brakes myself and will flush the fluid at that time so no need for a fluid flush.

First of all, this is 2016. The gender identity of the service tech is irrelevant. I for one am aghast at the title of this thread. Whether it's a transsexual service tech or a bisexual detailer their lifestyle choices should not be a factor.
Wait a minute, I may have misunderstood the thread.

Do it. $399 for a transmission filter and fluid replace is cheap insurance, especially on these 722.9 transmissions. For reference, MB Dealer charges about $580 for this service.

If the service is done incorrectly in some way by the independent mechanic, you may end up with a transmission issue.
Debris, dirt
Under filling
Incorrect fluid spec
Unclean practices :-)
Over filling
All can result in problems soon after the service.
If the independent has a spotless shop and works precisely with oem fluids then there's no reason to pay more. But if it's a typical repair shop you may be heading for trouble.

Thanks Mr. Rat. I looked at the shop and reviews before taking my car there. Talked to the mechanic, 12 years at local MB dealer and all fluids are Merc Spec. Nice shop with tons of high end cars there getting service. They Specialize in German cars and indicated that they have the tools and software to work on my car. Hopefully there are no issues.

Shop just called and indicated that because I have a 4 matic car, the tranny takes blue fluid instead of the normal red fluid. Blue fluid is good for 70K so no service needed. Sound right?

Correct blue, has to do with model year rather than 4matic. FYI left pan red ATF 134 (every 4 years/40,000 miles whichever comes first), right blue FE-AF 134 ATF (7 years/70,000).

that's a good deal. Oil and filter alone cost a couple hundred. For the amount of work that has to be done I gladly paid a shop to do mine as well. Cost me $350

Personally I plan to have this procedure done again at every 50K kms, rather then spending the same amount at the dealer.
Guess it should be no problem to find similar or better method in the US.

It's not worth doing it yourself. I was planning on it, I usually do all my own maintenance. But, by the time I priced out the filter kit and oil, it was less than $100 extra to have an Indy shop do it.

WIS-method differs from this: http://www.automatikoelwechselsystem.de/automatic.html.

Yea, I was pretty sure it was required on the benz service list? I also remember reading if you wait after that point, you're almost certain to have issues.

Sorry guys but I trust the MB Certified mechanic that told me the change interval depends on the type of fluid. 40K for red and 75K for blue.

My 2007 S550 went on limp mode and so I had to bring it to my mechanic. He said he needs to replace the transmission plate and is charging me $1900.00. My car already have 110,000++ miles. Is that a reasonable amount? He told me the dealership charges $2,500.00 for it and he has to get the parts from Florida as MB doesn't sell it to independent mechanics anymore. Any input will be appreciated.

Call your dealer with the last 8 characters of the VIN and they can verify pricing for you. Mercedes offers a reman version of most 7229 conductor plates for about $1500 + a $200 core deposit.

This guy had the same issue, the repair cost $1400 at the MB Dealer. It might be worth calling your local dealership.
