First Imperssions: After a bit over 2000 miles driven, i have to say that i highly recommend this vehicle to anyone who is in the market for a diesel vehicle. The E 250 with the Sport Package handles expertly and imperfections in the road are incredibly well dampened. My vehicle is equipped with 245/45/17 tires which soaks up pot holes and cracks. My only complaint would be the OEM tires, which are Bridgestone Turanza EL-400. The tires are a bit harsh and noisy but i will be replacing them soon with Continentals or Bridgestone Driveguards. I need to stick with Run Flats because i do not have a spare due to the DEF tank.

The 2.1L turbo diesel engine which delivers 195 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque is more than adequate for everyday use. The torque kicks in around 1600 RPM which is great for going up steep inclinations, the engine does not down shift at all, where as a regular 4 cylinder engine or even a 6 cycliner would have to downshift to 4th or 5th gear depending on the steepness of the climb raising the RPMs well over 2000. This obviously is great for fuel economy, but the best part is how quiet and relaxed the engine is. There is no diesel noise at all in the cabin. Just as quiet as a E 350.

The fuel economy is obviously one of the perks of owning a diesel vehicle, this being my first one. The E 250 is a highway machine, i have taken a few short trips to Vegas and Santa Barbara, traveling about 73 - 77 mph the whole trip, i was able to get 38.4 mpg. On a city and highway mixed driving in LA, 31-33 mpg is more realistic. Also diesel fuel is at times almost $1.00 cheaper than 91 octane at certain stations here in Los Angeles, another bonus. Currently, it is around $.50 less per gallon.

Overall thumbs up for the E 250, i am definitely sold on the brand and the diesel engine. I am currently leasing but will switch to buy unless a more efficient diesel engine comes out.

Glad to hear a positive review of the new one. I'm curious to see what the highway MPG looks like after its broken in. I anticipate the E250 being a replacement for my W211 CDI in a couple of years.

I come to this conclusion about 20 years ago, so welcome to the club
1985 300tdt wasn't making much more than 20 mpg, while 120 or so HP were annoying.
Now 2008 Bluetec with 210 ponies is sport car, while delivering close to 35 mpg.
Make it 32 mpg when I average 83 mph on California freeways, but still impressive
With the pricing we come to lately, operating 4Matic gasoline cost about the same what my 4 tons Powerstroke dually pickup.
I am afraid margin for improvement on becomes very thin, so don't count on better engines soon.

I've a service loaner E250 since Monday and I have to admit it's impressive. I took it on a 100 mile freeway trip and it got 43.6 according to the mfd display. And the whole trip was running at a steady 70-75 mph with a brief burst to 90 to get out of the way of a 18 wheeler on the charge.

That said...........I Own a BMW535D which I prefer over the E250, but not by much. Wish the BMW had a 21.1 gal tank instead of 18.5 gal tank.

I'm wondering if they still sell the E250 Bluetec since I looked at the MBUSA site and found not a one to 'build' on that site. Anybody know if it's still available in the USA?

You can purchase the W212 diesel models, but they are hard to find depending on where you live. It took me a while to find the one i wanted with all the options. You won't see a W213 diesel in the US til late 2017.

Thanks for the review! Anyone have any news if we will see MY17/18 diesel models in the USA? At one time, MB was going to bring over a C, E and GLC diesels to the US but have stalled with all of the VW fiasco.

My lease is coming up on my 14 Passat SEL TDI and I want another oil burner. They are a blast to drive with the torque and the MPGs are amazing!

My wife has a W204 and I also wanted to upgrade to a Merc. I just hope that VW hasn't ruined diesels for all makes in the USA.

Why don't you inquire on MBUSA site about new diesels?
I think the low supply of diesels is due low demand. If you don't ask, you will not get.
I was driving VW Jetta tdi and had it for sale already when my wife ML got rear-ended.
I called off the buyer and offer her Jetta for test drive (we did own 4 VW in the past).
She took Jetta for 10 minutes drive and come back with
"No fre**ng way I am driving this"
Once you switch from VW to MB, it is hard to go back.

Agree fully. Had an '06 5 speed TDI Jetta before my W211 CDI and while they weren't intended to be in the same class, they're much farther apart than I anticipated. That will be the last VW product that I own that's out of warranty.

Thanks for the report. My S-350 is gonna be out of warranty early next year and I am considering an E250 BLUTEC 4MATIC as a replacement or going with a 5 year after market warranty. This report sounds very encouraging.

We will get diesel models in 2017, they changed the 2.1L twin turbo that is in my W212 to a 2.0L twin turbo

I can say the same for Lexus as well, that's what im coming from. I have owned an S4 in the past as well. Nothing drives and tracks straight like a Merc.

I just got back today from a 280 miles round trip drive to the casinos, i got 47.1 mpg going there and 38.8 coming back. I have about 6000 miles on the car now and im getting around 700 miles per tank. Im 95% sure ill be paying this car off and adding her to the stable as my highway warrior.

How long took you to make that 280 miles?
I am making 555 miles to the Strip in 7.5 hr (or 6.75 hr of driving), but then I am happy to see 30 mpg with my 3-liter

It took me about 4 hrs to complete the trip, about 1h 45 mins going and hit a bit of traffic so it was just over 2 hrs coming back. The rule of thumb for me is to drive 7-10mph over the speed limit to maintain a good speed and not get tickets. On this highway the speed limit was 70 so i drove 80-85 mph pretty much the whole way.

Was this indicated or hand calculated? My W211 indicates ~3 above hand calculated.

Hi, new member and just purchased a 2015 E250 from local MB dealer, it was a demo with 800 miles on it. I'm glad to see someone else happy with the same car. I had wanted a diesel for quite a while, had a Jeep Liberty with a diesel about 12 years ago, but wasn't impressed with it as I thought I would have been. I am extremely impressed with the quiet power this car offers. I hope the TDI scandal gets resolved and we can get back to having these cars available again. I really wanted a wagon (traded my much enjoyed Subaru Outback), but have an Acura MDX for carrying things, so the sedan is my now everyday driver. I hope to learn from others here as time moves forward as I'm sure I will have questions about the car.

That is what the dash indicated, you are correct from my calculations as well, MB is always off by 2-3 mpg. The vehicles usualy takes me aound 600 - 650 miles and i fill up about 18.5 gals to full. So i am actually doing from 33-36 mpg, MB has the E 250 spec'd at 33 mpg combined so one cannot complain. And i do not coast or glide or whatever, i just drive it like a diesel engine should be driven. I can guarantee if you stay around 67-70 mph on the highway you can easily get from from 35-38 mpg combined.

I just went in for my 10000 mile service, and i love this vehicle more and more as the days go.This is one vehicle that i will definetly not be trading it in pre maturely, matter fact i am about 85 % convinced to purchase the vehicle.

you guys need to learn eco-driving
I usually value my time higher than extra fuel, but lately driving on flat freeway wanted to check my gasoline wagon 4M for best mpg.
Keeping constant 65 mph between semi truck I was observing 25 mpg, 26, 27 than after 25 miles the counter did show 30 mpg.
That said, in normal driving I am satisfy with 22mpg, what happens only on long cruising.
The counter on my 320 Bluetec show actually less mpg than hand calculation. I was checking average on over 2000 miles and when counter did show 32 mpg, hand calculation come to 32.6 mpg. Factory wheels.
So if doing eco driving with 22 mpg car I could get 30, what will I get doing eco with 32 mpg car?
Is 40+ mpg in my future? How about 50?
Now I can tease you guys with old picture.

I'm currently in Maine on a vacation trip and the first time I filled the tank was at 646 miles and required only 14.5 gallons to file the tank, so consumption was at over 46 MPG, which makes me really happy. The engine is so quiet I rarely even hear it on the highway. I'm really getting happy about this car!

Are all the diesel owners on the factory 17" wheels or has anyone upgraded to bigger wheels ?

I have factory 16".
I also have 18" monoblocks that I am switching between the cars, but ride difference is pretty big.
With 18" first thing you notice is less tail wag, but then you hit a pothole and fun ends.

I know exactly what you mean, i put 18s for a little while and sold them within a few weeks because my comfort really decreased. Also is everyone running Run Flats ? I know Run Flats make for a stiffer ride so i am thinking about switching to conventional Continentals and relying on AAA if i get a flat.

There is topic on other forum, where Maybach owner reported $18,000 damages when he run flats on flats for 9 miles distance at low speeds.
Today's tires have very high reliability and even if you catch a nail, I was clocked with my friend to change the wheel in 78 seconds.
I also have full size spare.

I did hear some years ago that a after market tyre well could be moulded & made available.
