Carbon Fiber seat backs

Replacing the standard seat back is a breeze.

There are 2 Torx 20 screws near the very bottom of the seat back. Move the seat as far forward and up as possible and remove the screws.

Use body panel wedge to carefully pop the tabs out from either side. I managed to break one of the plastic tabs but not a big deal since the original seat back will likely not get used again.

There's a small plastic cover right near the top - about where the coat hook is - you'll need to pop this sucker out. BTW, there is no coat hook in the CF seat back.

Continue popping the tabs, they get progressively easier. In no time, the part will just about fall out into your hands.

Installing the CF seat back is straightforward. Carefully line things up and apply gentle yet firm pressure on the tabs to get them to pop in. Don't force anything, just take it easy.

Once all of the tabs are snugged into place, pop the 2 screws back in - don't over tighten, there's simply no need.

Caveat: I'm not sure if there is any difference with Roadster seat backs.

Couple of pics just to give you an idea of what things look like.

Funny you should ask as I was only able to receive 1 of the seat backs; they appear to be out of stock for now. The lower side panels were available (I received both of those).

You can call them an inquire about various parts but you need to order online through them to get best pricing.

http://www.mbpartsworld.com

They have access to all available inventory in the US (across dealer network)...and can order from Germany if need be.

The CF transformation continues! Thank you for posting your progress, and the work seems very reasonable to perform for a DIY project.

I hope you didn't get the 1 seat back that I returned (there was damage to it incurred during shipment).

Have they given you an ETA on the 2nd one? Frankly, I've kinda given up on the seat-backs. They're essentially invisible except for the top 1.5 inches or so. The rest of the CF bits (sills and seat rails) really transform the interior though - so worth it.

Yah, I returned the damaged part and cancelled the order on the seat backs. Hope your second one shows up soon.

What I remember is - first, scoot the seat forward a bit and then raise the seat bottom as high as it'll go. Doing so will give you decent access to the leading edge of the seat in order to get the screws out (there are 2 or 3 of them). Once those screws are out, the piece sort of pops off with even, gradual pressure while pulling it away from the seat. In other words, don't yank on the thing.

The Passenger side has an extra degree of difficulty in that you have some wiring harness (2 of them, IIRC) plugged into the lower bottom of the seat. You'll see what I mean when you pull it apart. No big deal, just another little fussy thing to deal with.

Putting the CF pieces on can be a test of patience. You have to do things mostly by feel. If it doesn't 'feel' right, back up and take another stab at placement. You'll get it eventually.

I'm sorry I didn't document the process. It was all quite straightforward. Just take your time and be gentle.

Finally I got the time to install the side moldings for the seats...
2 screws at the corner holding the plastic, 2 clips in the middle then just slide it backwards... unplug the cable,4 screws holding the seat adjustment.. it's a straight forward swap... Driver side

Passenger side
