Curt receiver hitch coming soon

Talked to someone at Rack and Road (www.rackandroad.com) who told me Curt is coming out with a GLC specific receiver in a few weeks.

A gaggle of MB's
Well... the unfortunate thing is Curt has been saying the exact same thing for over 6 months.

Factory installed Class II has been the ONLY hitch available - no Mercedes accessory add-on hitch kit is available.

When Curt "finally" has hitch solution - I have 14 customers ready to go..

The factory installed hitch is $550, the Curt is $290 plus shipping and installation(unless
you can do it yourself). Don't see the advantage of aftermarket on a 47k purchase.

The Curt is a Class III hitch, while the OEM is a Class II.

According to the DOG dated 6/30/2016 (and the MBUSA website as of this writing) you can't configure the factory hitch with the Advanced Parking Assist Package. The Curt hitch at least gives people an option.

My experience with the Curt hitch on my last car was good. It was solid as a rock. I'm doubtful a factory item could be any better.

And the MB edification continues...glad I butted in on this thread.
Probably still going to order it so I have options, but the hang height on the Curt is a
bit troubling. I guess I'll start a new thread and see if anyone has pictures of the 2016
GLC with the factory hitch installed to see what it looks like(can't find anything on the web).

Here are
Some pictures of the Curt hitch installed. It is a 2" receiver. I think that the factory one is 1.5". Went on perfectly.

Yeah, I've seen a couple of pictures of the Curt installed, although yours
looks pretty good.
Still wouldn't mind seeing the factory installed one.

Any problems with the wiring for lights hook-up?

I think this is a valid concern. One most certainly does not want any shade tree mechanic cutting into a wire harness on their GLC. And considering the complexity of the electrical systems on the vehicle such alteration must be perfect.

Some time ago read an article concerning a Volvo whose owner had an aftermarket hitch installed. The electrical hookup was shoddy resulting in the car burning down.

Here is picture of factory hitch. Walked by one and didn't notice it at first. Very well done IMO.

Thanks for the pic FirstBenz(this will be my first MB also).
Better looking than the Curt, but still a hang below, just better done.
Was hoping there would be a cut-out in the rear apron so nothing hung below.

There is a cutout in the apron its just not visible in the post #13 photo. The top of the hitch is about one/two inches below the shiny trim piece. The rear end of the hitch is slightly forward of the bumper. All in all nicely tucked in just slightly below and forward of the rear bumper.

Yeah, now that I study the picture a bit more, I can see the slight cut-out in the
apron.
I don't need a hitch but once in a great while, so this is the best route for me.

I am only using the hitch for a bike rack. An electrical hookup may be available, I just didn't ask for it.

Curt and Draw Tight now available on etrailer.com

After 6 mo. of waiting, 2" receivers are now on the market for the GLC 300 on etrailer.com .
Went on etrailer.com today and found both the CURT model C-13290, rated at 900# tongue/6000# tow (NOTE: use the lesser of vehicle or hitch rated capacity!) for $161.95, and the Draw Tight, Model 76082, rated at 675# tongue /4500# towing, for $133.95, + shipping (Currently Free over $100 right now). I ordered the Curt, which will use mostly for bike rack but for $30 I prefer higher rated unit, even though the vehicle is not rated that high for towing.
I have purchased and installed several hitch receivers from E-trailer over the years, no problems. Look forward to getting my bike rack on for the end of summer trip to Cali beach!

Nice, but looks like a pretty involved home install.

Here's the view from the back. You don't really notice it that much. I don't have any wiring though. This is just for a bike rack. Hope it helps.

After scraping my left front bumper on my RX I am beginning to think that not being able to get Parktronic because of a trailer hitch is not a good thing. Just got back from my local trailer hitch installer who advised they could put on a Curt hitch with a new "non invasive wiring" for the lights. This new wiring goes over the existing wiring and receives a signal with no cutting splicing whatsoever. Which means everything can be removed and no harm done to the original wiring if the buyer doesn't want a hitch. Plus I get Parktronic which should be an aid to backing up the boat trailer.
