What I did to my 209 today!
This is the only forum of the few I go on that does not have a What I did.....thread......unless I've missed it!....... It's ideal for showing other members what you have been up to and showing off any mods without starting a new thread or a full on build log. Always ends up being about the busiest thread on any forum so hopefully it will take off here too. I'll start....nothing exciting...just changed the thermostat on my 200k....now runs dead centre of the gauge rather than about a quarter way up. Easy job and despite what it may say in other threads on here there is no need to drain the coolant....you only lose about half a pint. Only took about 20mins plus another 20 minutes to get her up to temp and bleed the air air....simple!

About two years ago I used that spray-on 3M film on the front bumper right after it was repainted. It looked fine until it got wet, then it looked like it had air bubbles under it until it dried. 3M suggested I didn't apply it thick enough.
Well, Saturday I took a mild scrungee & denatured alcohol to it. The film came off fairly easy. The film did its job rather well keeping paint chips at bay. But I wont do it again.

Fresh paint needs to "outgas"; ie: the solvent to dilute the paint has to escape. This is why they recommend to wait 90 days before was because wax would block the outgas process. I am impatient but I still waited 60 days.

You should count this as a blessing. You should not apply the 3M spray over fresh paint.

Though what I'm happy about is that the scrungee didn't mar the paint while trying to get the old 3M off.

Decided to try and fix my headlamp wash today which has not worked since I bought her. Ever hopeful I was expecting to find a bad contact or a blown fuse.....no such luck. Pump was seized solid. Good news is that a new pattern one is only £16.50 to my door (about $21.50 at todays rate). So not too bad ..... was not going to spend big money to fix something I will probably hardly ever use. But if its in the car it should work!

Cool....used to run a 40 horse shot of nitrous on a bright orange Yamaha XJR1200 I used to run...great fun and used to catch a few sports bike riders out between 50 and 100 too!

I drove mine. I bought it to be my daily driver but it's so pristine I was only driving it on nice days. Decided this morning to drive it no matter rain or shine. It does get parked in a parking garage so it won't be baking in the GA sun all day. I'm loving it!

They look great....but....I'm a bit concerned how much better flow (shorter, straighter, unshared flow till the joint) the rear two cylinders have compared to the other six. That's got to affect back pressure and cylinder filling when comparing the front to the rear cylinders. I know it's different but when I was fabbing bike exhausts (just for me) getting the headers as close as possible in length and flow was essential for smooth running and good torque....with the lengths affecting where peak torque happened. Just my two pence worth.

Thats why I partnered with another manufacturer to produce these. Are there better options performance wise. Sure. But im selling these for $400. Tthey bolt in with no modifications. And i can def tell it pulls better higher rpms. So are they the best no, are they better than stock manifolds? Definiatly and as far as mercedes performance parts go $400 is a bargain

Fair enough. Good points well made. My whole 209 did not cost $4000 ....so yeah that is a ridiculous amount of folding. Best of luck with them.

Fitted a new headlamp washer pump.......took all of ten minutes! That's one powerful pump.....covers the whole car in water!! Nice to have it working though.....not worked since I bought her.

I used to have a washer pump that for some reason when I bought it, the cap that diverted the spray into two jets was missing, and that meant I could fire a jet of fluid out about 7-8' in front of the car hahahah. It was a good prank to play on my mates, and of course as the washer retracted who'd have known how it happened ... I did take a video. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Cured a light and annoying rattle that I've had since I bought her. Happened for a second or two after start up so suspected exhaust but could find nothing wrong with the exhaust...and the heat shields all seemed solid. Whilst I was under it today putting back on my freshly polished exhaust tip (yeah..sad I know!) I just caught the very edge of the rear most heat shield with my hand and instantly recognised the sound.....Just one of the retaining clips was missing but replacing it (with a large washer and a spring clip) instantly cured it. The reason I did not find it before was I was being too heavy handed...it just took the lightest touch to make the noise. Nice to fix those annoying little problems....especially when the cure is free!
