Icarsoft/Star alternative... Vpecker
Hey everyone,
I will be honest, I don't like spending a ton of money nor I do I make an uber amount of it. But I am fully capable of repair most anything that is wrong with my E55. I wanted something that could read/clear codes, actuate basic things, and activate SBC/Deactivate SBC. I was going to go with the icarsoft MBII. But after researching some of the other competitors (Launch x431 etc) I stumbled across Vpecker. It is capable of doing more things on my E55 and it is not as limited to Mercedes like the icarsoft would be.
It has the ability to do ride height calibration. You can even manually raise or lower specific parts of the car. (I haven't figured out if you can lower them all and save the setting yet)
I can turn the SBC system on and off as well as guide you through bleeding the car.
It has the ability to reprogram new keys. I played with that a bit last night but I don't have it completely figured out as I have only had it for 12 hours.
It cleared codes easily and can read the values of all the different sensors the car has.
Yes I know there are some that do not want to use "knock off" software. But, I am not that guy. So, you may want to take a look at Vpecker. Their site shows specifics for each Make and Model and what it can do. I bought it through the place that gives free 2 days shipping. (not sure if you can name drop on this forum) It was $150.00. Note that it only runs on windows which some may not like. But, I have two laptops so this wasn't a concern.
So far this can do enough that I won't need star. And it will also work for all of my other vehicles, my friends vehicles, etc. No matter what make, it will be useful.
Take it for what its worth. It may be a good options for some and not for others!

I was trying to follow the steps last night. I have a new keys that has supposedly never been coded before. But, it was late and I had been out on the boat all day. So I was not at my best. I will try get to it tonight. I thought there had a be a "green key" involved in the programming but nothing in this software led me to believe that as of now.

Ok, that could be why I was struggling to figure it out. I was under w211 e55 and it said it could do it. But again, this is a knock off. Thank you for the information. Either way, as of now I am very impressed for the little money I have spent.

UPDATE
The software has been a big help for my SBC system. It can activate and deactivate the system (not a huge feet, i know). It can read all of the sensors related to it as well.
It cannot read the number of actuation, nor reset them thought.
It has a quick test to check all systems for fault codes and clear them promptly.
I will try to update this as I use it to share my experience you with you. Maybe this inexpensive alternative will work for some others.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Nice find, and it looks promising. Many of us do not need all the functions of star.
OBD2 scanners can only access check engine light. So, if this can access codes stored within star this is great!!
I see them on ebay. Which one did you buy? I see various ones and some dont include mercedes. :-/ Thanks!
