Have any of you guys succesfully changed out the reverse light bulbs to LEDs that do not throw an error and function well? I cannot find a set that have zero issues. I am going to be taking trunk liner apart to plastidip rear trunk strip and figured if I could find the right bulbs I might as well swap out the reverse bulbs.

Expensive but worth it.

I've tried brand name (PIAA), off brand etc. These are the most brightest out there with no errors/flashing or random bulb burn outs.

^ Those are older 5050 SMD chips. Technology has long passed those by already. And plus those are the wrong type of bulbs OP is asking for.

Finding bulbs that don't throw codes is one thing, finding bulbs that have a decent life span that warrants the hassle is another.

I bought 6 from AZN LED's and I don't know why, but for the life of me, they do not last more than 3 months before blowing out.

AZN's taken great care of me by honoring his warranty as he's sent me like 5 replacements now, but I'm starting to second guess that either is something is wrong with my car, or that these bulbs are just not cutting it in terms of build quality.

I'll probably look into some halogen next unless you want to keep sending me replacements AZN!

Whats the difference between the older type and new type?

It's been almost a year with the MTEC ones through hot and cold weather and no issues so far.

Lots of new technologies have been introduced into the market. New SMDs like the COB chips and the new CREE XBD give better light dispersion and heat dissipation. Other advances include temperature gauges to measure heat and conditionally react accordingly, constant current IC drives, silicon gel coats, etc have been introduced to the market as well.


I will say that the number one killer of integrated canbus LEDs is current surges and vehicles that are surge prone will have and continue to have issues unless you wire in external pulse resistors to act as surge protectors (similar to what you do with your home computer or tv and the surge protector between those and your wall socket). We've embedded whatever we can to help extend the life of our units and the vast majority of our customers experience several years of use, but there are always those vehicles that are just outside the norm. We do offer a 1 year easy warranty though so at the very least, no matter what, you get a year's use out of them.

LED's on the W204 is a hassle. I got rid of all of my LED's and put the regular filament bulbs back in.

LED's look great for a few months, then start to flicker. No thanks. I hate having to change bulbs every few months.

Okay, so I'm not the only one. You just go with regular halogens, or did you get some blueish looking ones that appear white.

I'm thinking that's the best option as I really don't like the egg yolk look.

Its been happening with pretty much all W204's. AZN said it himself that this will always be an issue.

I bought PIAA Super White 194's for the side markers and eye brows.

I changed my eyebrow LED's like 10 times.

From Halogen- (Sylvana Silverstar - Not bright enough), OEM

From LED- (PIAA, Ebay Brands - Errors, Burnt out and melting)

Finally, those expensive MTEC ones solved my issues. My bulb out warnings, No flickers, Output is the best so far and have lasted 9 months+ through freezing winter and hot summers. I'm glad I never have to change them again.

Give it some time, they will start to mess up. I had the MTEC's and they lasted 11 months before they started to flicker etc.

That sucks to hear. The last LED's have left a small burn mark on the inside too...

At this point I may consider doing a MY2012+ Headlight/Hood swap.
