I just picked up a 2013 E350 Cabriolet and was told that the key can open and close the top. Since mine doesn't seem to work, I was looking to confirm if this in fact true.

On my '14 E550 cab, to open, I press the unlock button twice and hold it. You need to be close to the car for it to work. Windows will go down and roof will peel back. To close it, hold the lock button down until it's closed. The open feature is a bit fussy, try hitting the button once and hold, or maybe even three times. Because it seems sensitive to how close you are to car, I'm not sure it gets the signal to open the roof on the first push.

What you're talking about, you need to point your key at your driver's door handle within a few feet away. Hold unlock to open the top and lock to close. It's a real pain and you end up standing there holding it impatiently.

I highly recommend getting the SmartTOP module. It allows you to control your windows and top from the range of your key at upwards of 50 feet away. It's a pretty simple install. Just plugs into a few ports hidden in the back of the trunk. Best mod for convertibles. Couldn't imagine not having it. List of features listed on the website.

I have the smarttop module and cant live without it. MB original functions are WAY TO limited...Love the smarttop module.
