2013 cpo vibrate felt via seat and steering wheel. Told is Motor mount issue

Just bought a cpo one. We love the car. Absolutely nice to drive. But you feel it as a big suv when you turn at corners... have to be slow.

When test drive, I felt a little bit the vibration from theseat, the center storage box, and sometime steering wheel. As it is a cpo one, i took the plunge and brought it home.

After checking some posts here that talking about engine mount being the issue, we brought it into the local dealer for checking. They said this time it is the motor mount. I checked other sites and this seems a common issue too .

Under warranty so I am not concerned too much and will report back if that fixes the issue.

My question is if this is really quality of mount issue as its only 3 year old. Or is it V8 engine shaking or something else that leads to mount issue so later we will need fix again when its out of cpo warranty few years down the road.

Any insights or thoughts?

Just report back that the dealer changed three motor mounts(are they engine mounts but called differently?) and that fixed the vibration.

The work order says the mount is weak that caused vib...

Very happy and now it drives and idles in mint condition...

But again my concern is that after 20-30k more miles would this come back or just the bad mounts happened to be on the car?

Anyway just bought two more yrs extended cpo so a few years to go....

yes, motor mounts = engine mounts. Glad you got it resolved. Vibration issues can be hard to diagnose, even harder to fix.

same issue with my 2014 CPO 550, rough idle. The dealer took it in swapped engine mounts now I'm idling smooth as silk. That was 1 month ago...took it back for a whine at 75Mph, they identified it but not have been able to locate the source , been at the dealer two days now.

thanks for the info. Can you please confirm if the vibration happens at high speeds like 65 mph+ and does not happen at lower speeds?

I have this issue with my 2013 CPO since the day i got it. Thought it was related to wheels/tires not balanced - had it balanced but the issue persists.

Thanks,
Maneesh

Mine (2014 GL550) has same issue. It is very smooth up to 70 mph, but vibration starts coming after 70 mph. Is it normal?

This is my first winter with a 550/ 21" AMG wheels with Conti UHP tires (factory). Now that the weather is getting colder in the mornings around 35 degrees, i notice a bit of vibration as i enter the highway approachinf 70 MPH. After about 3-5 minutes of the tire warming up the vibration goes away, as i maintain speed, decelerate or accelerate. I have not had any vibration problems during the summer month's (i have owned it since May of this year). I'm thinking because of the low profile tires they are more prone to vibration if they sit idle for a few days/weeks, or when they get cold.

I have read the entire thread on vibration issues, and i know that there could be many causes to it, but people should realize any vehicle with this wheel/tire combo will have some kind of vibration, its just physics. Just my .02 cents.

to the OP, i'm glad you were able to resolve the issue with the mounts.

Thought it was the engine mount on my 13 GL550 as well since there's a slight vibration at idle. Turns out there was a loss of compression on cylinder 5 and now the whole head has to be replaced. I'm only at 60k.

Same exact issue at 75Mph on a 14 550 cpo. Would love to hear of yours was resolved and how.

Does anyone know if there is a TSB for this? Are the new mounts identical to the old ones?

All the benz mounts collapse after a couple years, on almost every engine/chassis. The only problem is increased vibration, the only solution is new mounts.

Pay to play in this situation. The hydraulic mounts that give the smooth isolation, have a finite lifespan.

Best or nothing

Well, I have both of these problems. I'll have to discuss this with my service advisor again as they had me convinced it wasn't a problem while every time my husband drives it, he points it out.

1. There's a vibration we feel mostly in the seat. Ruled out full vs. low gas tank. Seems to go away when put in park - so not sure that would be the engine mount issue??? I have previously had a valve coil? replaced... so not sure if that's a clue.

The dealer had someone drive with me but because they didn't feel in it the steering wheel, they had me convinced it wasn't a problem.

2. I also get the vibration at about 70 mph that goes away at higher speeds. It happens with both my OEM wheels and winter wheels.

The transmission mount vibration is most noticeable in gear due to the load on the transmission. When you switch to park/neutral the vibration is very hard to detect. Replace the transmission mount, it will go away.

Highway vibration that's not tires (unless both sets need balancing) will be something else in the driveline, possibly a worn driveshaft coupler or bearing, have to have it checked.

Are you kidding? Vibrations at 65-75 mph are due to motor mounts? My dealer claims two tires aren't balancing well.

According to service techs it's the heat that wrecks the motor mounts, bluetec is more prone to this.
