You're supposed to tell me to buy one from a grandma, not someone who drags it LOL.

I think park it for a week or two, is this a significant other issue? Buy her some flowers, tell her you love her, apologies for spending too much time and money on the car, let her know you would never love anything that can't love you back. I swear I think my wife of forty years is jealous of my E63 LOL. I agree obsession is normal.

Thanks for the words and advice. I lasted 1 day until I changed my mind and I tried to delete this post the following day but was unable to do so. My wife does think I am over the top with the car but the short lived decision was self induced. It is too good of a car to sell; no way I can replace it and I would regret it.

Yes, car is underperforming given the mod list and the IAT's were very low. There was still ice in the engine bay tank after all 3 of the pulls from the custom tune with Jerry/EC.

I am going to start logging and go back to the 84mm clutched. Very disappointing RWHP with my current mods and the custom tune and 77mm Fixed only got me 9 hp over the 84mm clutched box tune (486/537).

At any rate, thanks for the "therapy". Of course, when I start logging I will have something else to obsess about!

Glad to hear your keeping it. I don't know much about the E55 but producing heat is a given and if you still have ice then the cooling water must not be reaching the heat. Any way to check coolant flow? Good luck, you'll get it sorted.

Let them go buy the $8K car he finds! It'll run for a week or so, then the issues will arise.
I bought a $20K inspected stock one and spent about that 1st year on it. Some to bring all maintenance up to par, some for mods, and some by choice.

Good Luck.

Good decision. You worked hard, you will reap the fruit of your endeavors!

Log, log, log! You will find your issue. Look at everything you can and how it correlates to other things. Timing retard up high may be a heat issue or a boost issue.

Sensors that are bad can cause all kinds of issue with a complex fuel injection system so logging against a standard x axis is critical. Use time, rpm, or speed.

At some point you will use all three looking at one thing or another. Temps, pressures, duty cycle are all important.

Once you figure it out it is your success and no one can ever take that away. Sometimes you do need to take a step back, put away the flame thrower, close the garage, and have drink.

But only sometimes.

Literally laughed out loud on the final words...

I hope to heck the logging tells a story.

Here is some history on how the car has progressed based on modifications, dyno, and drag strip for everyones reading pleasure:

My previous 2006 E55 (white) I bought new ran a 12.16 @115 STOCK but put down consistent 1.8 60' times. Never had it on a dyno...

Current Car (black):

Phase 1:
168 pulley, headers, box tune, mez pump, and engine bay tank
12.39 @ 114 Best trap of 117
2.0 60'
Dyno @ 438/424

A car fitting my description () ran pretty much fender to fender with a 6M Hellcat from 40-99 mph with this set-up (yes, the Cat was starting to pull). This pull occurred the day we were at the dyno shop. The Cat put down 662 RWHP! It is on video buried in another post of mine "C63 Mufflers Too Loud...

Phase 2:
Everything in the grocery list above except 84mm clutched pulley, box tune, and no killer chiller.
12.1 @ 116
1.96 60'
Dyno 484/53
It was HOT with a DA of 3500 and the temp "real feel" was almost 98 degrees. After each run the car got 2 tenth's and 2 MPH slower. My last run my trap was only 110 mph! Yuk!

Phase 3:
As described above.
Dyno 495/570.
It was pretty hot and humid (82 degrees) in the dyno garage.
I haven't been to the strip.

My sense is some d/r's would help my 60' time huge and the word is for every 1 tenth of a second for 60' it takes 2 tenths off in the quarter. I just don't like the strip as it seems to be very hard on the car.

I will report back what logging shows.

Look at the obvious first. Log IAT's and Timing Retard first and then TPS and AFR if you have them available.

Check for kinked coolant lines to the HE, maintenance issues, any stored codes. A box tune may be overly rich depending on your mods and the tuner's experience with that exact combo.

You will find it. If everything checks out then I would do compression and if that is good I would do a leak down test.

That would cover the gamut of what I would do for now.

I made 512whp/620wtq on dyno jet with similar mods. I had a fixed 83mm and no tank. Also no tb or intake.
The intake filters are choking you up. Had a home brew ftp intake setup and chucked it and went back to stock boxes with k&n.
Pull your filters and take the car around the block for a spin lol. Thank me later.

If all works well, put your boxes back in and ththrow in upd's intake spacers.

Update on this so thanks for the words...

Nice #'s for you. I do like that UPD Set-Up Shardul sells. I have never been a fan of the current intake set-up. I have it wrapped with DEI Titanium wrap and everyone thinks it looks real nice. Lot's of "ooo's" and "aaaah's" but I am not a fan. Trying to track down a 82mm Y-tube and rings and get the factory set-up back on.

Just found that a tube that was ran from the inlet in the engine bay tank (which was very flimsy and extremely thin) was always kinked or eventually contracted as it tried to move the liquid from the engine bay tank back into the car. This explains no movement in the engine bay tank and symptoms of the car having a failed IC pump. This explains why the engine bay tank was always hot to the touch and the car was always running hot.

Replaced the 77fsp with my 84mm clutched. Custom tune next. Wish me luck..

Ha! That would do it I suppose. I had a weak ic pump when I got dyno tuned along with homemade python tunes using 3in aluminum tubing and silicone 45s and such. The 45s would buckle under WOT and would kill my air flow.

Disconnected everything and my timing would still pull up top due to pump lacking the right amount of flow.
That day I came in at 470/580 wheel with no pythons connected.

A month later went to the same dyno jet with a new cm30 and s55 tubes and got my finally numbers where I wanted to be.

Stick to fsp and get the custom tune you should break 550whp with ease on your set up

Too late on the 77mm FSP and the 84 clutched got re-installed today (i also have a 168 crank). Pulled it off this am and it is in the mail headed to JoeJErnst.

Custom dyno tune with the 168/77 got me 495/570. The 168/84 was 486/559.

The 77 FEELS WAY FASTER!

The car does not seem as fast as before (go figure). From what a very knowledgeable source said "the fastest E55's don't necessarily have the biggest pulleys".

I need to work on airflow!

you need to stop bench racing.

I am going to tell you right now, a lightly modded e55 with a 168mm pulley (which is fricken tiny for a cp) and shorty headers isn't going to touch a hellcat from a roll. Not even close.

get rid of that stupid killer chiller and bay tank and replace it with a nicer heat exchanger and meth.

My buddy with a stage 3 c63 is doing just that and suffers from heat soak like crazy when ambient is over 80f.
Granted it's a different platform, but the physics is the same. His iats are never under 110f. 140f timing is pulled on any mb platform from what I've read. Killer chiller FTW with 20-25f under ambient iats.

Ruthle55,

You are never clear and always seem to be on the fence on your thoughts. Will you just level with folks and tell them how you really feel?

Sending you a PM with a link of the video. BUT...

Although what I claimed (watch the video) seems impossible, when you break down all the #'s and stats it isn't that much of a stretch.

Back in April after I had a bad day at the strip I did a "big quarter mile analysis" and someone (it might have been you) replies back with "what is the point?".

The point was the difference in (for example) a 11.4 and 12.4 car is a few tenths of a second per 1/4 mile increment (60', 330', 1/8 mile, 1000', and 1/4 mile).

All this means 2-3 10th's of a second is NOTHING in a street pull (about 1/2 to a full car length?) where it SEEMS close. Add up 2-3 10th's of a second 3 times on the strip and you are getting your doors blown off.

You don't get it.

Stop comparing ET from a roll. Trap speed, and someones back half at the 1/8th is whats going to determine a highway pull.

And no, killer chillers are stupid. I want to see all these logs of people losing massive timing at 140f. I'm seeing 140f at the end of a pull (143F) and I lose MAYBE a degree of timing.

If you want better IAT's for a street car, and not glory pulls at MIR you need water/meth or nitrous.

Ruthle55,

You are top notch!

I think it is well established that I "don't get it". Endless examples of this (I buy the wrong stuff, replace it with the wrong stuff, have a car that underperforms given the mods, can't follow instructions on how to get a LM-2 data logger up and running and install a o2 sensor correctly, end up with a car that is functioning like it has no I/C pump due to a fragile tube in the engine bay tank that either gets crushed by ice or chokes itself out, this is the start of the party). At least I am "self aware"!

However, let's get back to how this party started; I am not full of BS on the Hellcat pull. Did you watch the video/pull with the Hellcat? It happened, I can set up a phone call with the owner who will attest to the runs.

Next, 100% same page on trap speeds and more importantly results of a 60-130 pull that are a much better representation of how a car performs.

Anyhoo, any bites on your car?

Killer chiller is doing nothing at WOT as the AC is shut off. This is where meth or NOS helps. Tuners can adjust timing/temperature thresholds/breakpoints.

No, I couldn't sell the stupid thing for 12k if I tried.

Everyone who goes to buy an MB doesn't want a high mileage car. Or someone wants to give me 9k for it.

I watched the video. The Hellcat owner had no idea what he was doing.
