New W211 Bi-xenon headlights. OEM or aftermarket?
Hi MBworld,
I have imported a W211 E500 -04 that currently have left-hand traffic headlights and I need to install right-hand traffic lights.
The car has Bi-xenon (code 618).
Do you recommend to go for a pair of used OEM headlights or am I better of looking for some new aftermarket lights?
Do you have any recommendations about where I can purchase these for a fair price?
I live in Sweden.
Also, how do I know if the vehicle have the curve lights or not?

coding should be the only thing you would need to adjust. Do you lights adjust and turn when you move steering wheel? if not you do not hve curve ilumination....

I do not have the vehicle yet so I can not test that. It will arrive in a couple of weeks. But I need to purchase new headlights until then, if I need to do that.
I thought you can maybe see if you have the curve lights by your VIN?

Thank you!
I can not find anything that states I got the curved lights. Not that I can see. If you want, it would be really helpful if someone can take a look and confirm!
Do anyone have a recommendation about what headlights to buy? Aftermarket och used OEM?

Do you have any thought on the choice between aftermarket lights or used OEM?

I installed Chinese lights on W210 and even the projector lights look good on the car, the light beam was spread unevenly. Not even saying that all 4 bulbs burned within 3 weeks.
Other members report the same problems with aftermarket.
Don't know if they improved lights for W211, but if you go for them, let us know.

I think LHD and RHD lights are in fact physically different, as the cutoff plate for the projector is inverted. If you used LHD driving lights in London for example, the higher light on the right side would be shining in oncoming motorist's eyes.

dont bother with oem, youll find heaps from ebay for a fraction of the cost with satisfactory output. sorry but i cant help you with any links but make sure you buy the CORRECT HEADLIGHTS (lhd or rhd) as im a bit confused when you said you imported a LHD vehicle and needed to change the headlights to a RHD. wouldnt the healights be the last of your worries from converting a LHD to a RHD?

I think I might have messed up my initial writing a bit
I imported the car from Japan where they drive on the left side of the road, like in UK, so the cars are usually right hand driven.
Here in Sweden we drive on the right side of the road.
This imported car is left hand driven but have the correct headlights for japan. So the steering wheel is on the rights side for me in Sweden, I just need to change the lights so I get an asymmetrical beam pattern for driving on the right side of the road.
I have noticed many more high end cars with bigger engines in Japan is LHD, do not know why.

I read something in the owners manual about a switch on the inside of the headlight unit that switches over from RHT to LHT, I am not sure so don't quote me. German cars in Japan with bigger engines are imported directly from Germany new and Germany drives LHD.

Unfortunately for me, the symmetrical beam pattern is not accepted as a permanent solution in Sweden and I need the correct side asymmetrical pattern to get the vehicle to pass the registration process here.

I'm happy with mine. http://m.parts4euro.com/category/31303137
Also, are they for the facelift or pre-facelift cars? Or is it no difference between the two other than apparel?
EDIT: I had not read the full description, they are for pre-facelift and then fit my vehicle.

One is for cars with halogens and is upgrade to xenon. That's what I have. No error codes and much better light than stock halogens. The other set is the xenon replacement upgrade. I'd expect they are good too but have not tried. I've had mine for two years now without any issues. I still like them and feel the upgrade was a good choice. They were plug and play.

Is this also Bi-xenon? I have not really understood if there are a "just xenon" option on the w211 or if all cars with xenon have "Bi-xenon".

Im afraid the reflectors are physically different on each side, so the problem is not solved that easy. You have another beam pattern at the side that points to the side of the road, away from oncoming traffic.
Any more tips on good aftermarket Bi-xenon headlights?

Just to let you all know, I went with original used headlights. Got a pair for €350 incl. shipping from Germany. A good price I think.
Now I just need both the car and the headlights to arrive.

I bought them from this seller at Ebay:
http://www.ebay.de/usr/www-mein-autoteil-de
Will let you know when I receive them if everything went smooth and if they are in said condition. Should be clear and not milky with no broken mounting tabs.
Hard to find used for a good price, everything seems a bit overpriced compared to a new pair (which also, of course, is super expensive).

It's amazing how many good used parts are available from Junk Yard Parts; they send a request out to dozens of yards and ones who have the part respond with prices which one can often haggle down.
