Bluetooth Question.
I know that these questions must be asked and answered far too many times but hey, the older car is new to me and of course I want Bluetooth, but the catch is that I don't care to pay thousands of dollars for it.
At any rate here is my question, I have found no outward appearances of prewiring in my 2008 CLK but when reviewing a VIN report for this car I came across this line....
MOBILE PRE.-INSTALLATION (MTUS) USA / CANADA.
So is it safe for me to assume that my car is prewired and if so how much would I expect a dealer to charge to finish the installation?

Dear Blurryeyed,
If you have an '08 CLK look inside the glove box. There is an iPod connector. Check out Tune-2-Air. They sell a BT adapter for an iPod plug. Connect to that and you are good to go.
I have had mine for three years and it works great.

Zill, thanks for your response, I read a little about Tune-2-Air and I am not sure that it is what I am looking for, I am not so interested in music as an Apple upspdate to my ipod wiped out 1200 songs, but I am interested in hands free telephone while still listening to my CD changer or radio.

W209 CLK 2008 Cabriolet
Hi,
I just did the Bluetooth Phone install on my 2008 CLK550 Cabrio.
The install is not that difficult but there is a bit of know-how that can make it much easier. It isn't trivial, like just plug this in or that in because of the architecture of the "MOST" optical array that is the communication network for your NAV, CD player, and the "UHI" module that controls the cellphone.
But basically, the parts you need for Bluetooth are the "Bluetooth Puck", the "Connector Plate", and the "UHI module". You may need a fuse or two; I only needed one fuse.
The MOST ring needs to be "broken" and the UHI module needs to be inserted. That is a fairly simple thing but you need to understand how the connector works, or you will never be able to separate the optical fibers.
After doing it once, it's pretty simple. The other thing you need to do is configure the microphone array. Basically, it is finding the wires, and reconnecting them in the appropriate way. Again, basically simple, but takes a little digging around to find the right wires. Hooking up the UHI module is two connectors, but there is a trick to one of the connectors (a little lever arm built into the connector). You can't plug the connector in without first rotating the grey lever arm and using it to pull the connector into the UHI module.
I know this all seems daunting, but once you know what to do, it can be done in a matter of an hour or two.
I'm going to upload some pictures to this thread to assist others so stand by.
There is a legend around here called "cellguy" who helped me a lot. He also sells kits for around $550 which is a reasonably good deal.
That kit and he will walk you through the process if you need it. He helped me understand the optical connector which needs to be seen to understand.
More later...

Thanks for your response, your post is exactly the information that I was looking for, I still am not sure if my car is prewired so I look forward to your posting images that will hopefully point me in the right direction.

My Bluetooth Install Experience of 2008 CLK550 Cabriolet (W209)
Hi all,
Here are my notes. I hope this helps.
Doug
Hi all, after getting a new phone, I forgot the passcode. Use 62872 (MBUSA) if you are having trouble. There is no "sticker" on this puck that says this.

Super Member
I bought this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Couldn't be happier. I liked it so much I have one in all of our vehicles now. Super easy to install. Completely hidden since the aux is in the glove box. Sound quality is great, auto connects with my phone. It's not OEM,, so steering wheel controls won't control BT (do they for the stock unit?) but it sure as hell beats paying $500-1000 for used parts to have BT in an older car, but that's just me.
*Note that the option above is currently unavailable but when I bought it was around $35.

So i was looking on ebay and was able to find the UHI control module and the puck but I'm having a hard time finding the contact plate (might have to get that brand new)
My question is are these the same parts I would need in my 2007 clk350 cab? I would like to add the bluetooth to the car. If someone can let me know if the parts are the same that would be great. I tried reaching out the cellguy85 waiting to see if he responds.

That's the part I used. It has the same fit and function, but may be a newer (re: available) unit. I got it from Cellguy. I don't see any issue with the controller; everything seems to work.
I also used the newer version of the "puck" which paired fine with my iPhone 6. I read that the original puck may need a firmware upgrade to be used with the modern phones. Some sell the upgraded firmware older model pucks.
Hope this helps.

I ordered all the parts now I'm just waiting for them to come in so I can attempt the install
I seen a part in one of the pictures in the PDF that you attached. Let me know if this is something I need, because it wasn't mentioned.

Hi BK627, That extra component is for splitting the Fakra antenna. If you don't intend to use the cradle (hardwired), you don't need it. I didn't for a bluetooth only installation.
Good luck with your install. One other thing, since you probably didn't buy the bracket, you can do what I did and use velcro to attach the UHI controller to the base of the trunk. I did it in a very non-elegant fashion, but it is covered up by the side panel so no one will see. Just make sure it doesn't touch metal to metal or you might hear it rattle.

Hi everyone,
I have a 2009 CLK350 Coupe and am trying to do the "cheater" bluetooth install. It was mentioned here that the installation for the cabriolet is easier than the coupe. What other parts would I need in addition to or replace the cabriolet "cheater" kit? What are the differences?
From my research, I have read the Star Bulletin for the 209 Coupe bluetooth install already, and I have read dleeme's Notes on W209 2008 CLK550 Cabriolet Bluetooth Module Install-s djl.pdf
If someone who has installed the OEM bluetooth on their coupe could provide any advice or guidance at all, that would be greatly appreciated!
