Any need to remove 2nd resonator with perf exhaust?
Hi all, have my ED1 coming next week and on my CLS63, I removed the 2nd resonator and replaced it with straight pipes. It livened up the car a bit and only cost $80.
Anyone do this on these cars or does the performance exhaust valves eliminate the need to do this?

I'm also interested in getting some more feedback from those who've already done it on the W205 C63/S. From what I've seen and read so far (not much!), although the performance exhaust is already pretty loud with pops and crackles, the removal of the secondary cats adds more pops and crackles and bit more of that NA V8 metallic edge, which I want. Here's a thread with some more info:

There are plenty of vids of straight up catless downpipes swaps (which I'm avoiding because it requires a remap to clear a fault code, will need to be swapped out come MoT time, is costly to have installed, and usually requires the standard downpipes to be cut up or the transmission removed), so I'm thinking it'll be somewhere between that and standard (like this for example:

Hi,
I have had the back box removed and cut open, Reason being is due to there being two pipes going through the back box. One for silent mode, and the oter for sport plus etc if you have the performance exhaust.
All you need to do it open the back box up and cover up the wholes on the Larger pipe which is used for sports + etc. This will act as a straight pipe from behind the down pipes. I am very pleased with this mod becauseit cost me £200 and looks completely stock for when it goes back to Mercedes. Also in quiet mode, it is exactly the same.

I just want to confirm that it won't cause the dreaded limp mode that some have experienced when tinkering with the exhaust. From what I've seen, the switches that control the exhaust can cause limp mode if tampered with.

i have the stock exhaust and the exhaust only contains mufflers. After the downpipe there is a straight pipe to the muffler and of course the H-pipe for the valves. I have the IPE Exhaust coming and also having weistec downpipes and tune going in should be done Wednesday.
edit: the IPE Exhaust contains an x pipe from the downpipes instead of the h pipe, stay tuned.

There is no resonators in our cars just Primary Cat, Secondary cat and mufflers. The removal of the seconday Cat will not make a difference on the car (no extra sound, no limp mode etc). Hope that helps!!!

Found another vid of someone who's removed the secondary cats. It's titled 'straight pipe', but it's clarified in the description that just the secondary cats have been removed. Sounds good!

I have the Performance Exhaust but to be honest I feel no difference at all. Now days the cats are so good and they flow so good that if there is a difference it will be very hard to notice.
I remember doing the cats on my w204 c63 and that made a huge difference but it was an NA and not a turbo car.

I may look into still it since it's less than $100. Car will be here Monday! It's a Palladium Silver ED1 Sedan.

By comparison, this is what the exhaust would sound like (ish) with straight pipes from the axle back. The exhaust shown is the catback AWE track exhaust, which deletes the rear mufflers, and is also larger in diameter. See how it compares to the secondary cat delete:
And, for final comparison, catless downpipes:

From what people are saying though, any mods to the downpipes seem to only be marginally louder at idle and low throttle, so you might be ok
