D/R Set-Up - Brand New for $579...
Fellas,
Just pulled the trigger on a pretty decent D/R "Street/Strip" Set-Up IMHO and wanted to share...
Rim/Tire Combo Brand New = $579 Includes Shipping
2 New 275 40 17 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial Tires - $279
These are discontinued and everything I have read they are really good!
17" AMG Replica Rims (17x8 with 5 bolt 112 and perfect offset) - $300
Link for Tires: http://www.ebay.com/itm/142062342915
Link for Rims - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-New-17X8-5.../131501941972?
hash=item1e9e2064d4:g:La0AAOSwrklVRR8i&vxp=mtr
Thought about doing 16" with Hoosier drag set-up but wanted a better "Street" set up for a stealth look and also want something a little more predictable for the bends in the roads (not "twisties") in case I end up in a little pull on a highway. I can see me forgetting about having a drag set-up on the car and it getting a bit too loose! For a tenth or so 60' and quarter mile time not worth the risk...
I have phone contact info for both sellers. PM me for details.

I ran a sleeper setup on some stock e55 wheels. 275 35 18 BFG DR.. They hooked great and handled the curves just fine at high speeds. Not talking about twisties. But, normal street and highway driving. BUt, they do wear out pretty fast.
Maybe your 17s will hook a bit better who knows. But, sleeper is on stock E55 wheels for sure.

I know you are laughing your azz off right now. I am chucking a bit as this is how it has been. Are there any undesirable consequences for running this set up?

OK....
For all it matters I checked with some other sources and they are saying I should be OK with minor tire bulge.
There is a theory (not mine) that with the tire bulge it may hook better as the sidewalls are already partially compressed. Thoughts on this?
Although this is not my set-up I was sent a pic of my tires on 17x8 rims and they don't look too bad.

first thing to address is the age of the tires. you are looking at tires that are over 6 yrs old. rubber deteriorates over time. personally i wont risk racing on any tire over 2 yrs old. 2nd your tread pattern is a street wet weather pattern not a racing pattern. grip will be minimal at best.
if you have the option return all of that get a set of clk rims for abpout 200$ at a salvage yard and slap a set of hoosier 255/50-16 drag radials on them. best setup you will need for this car

We will see. Won't be the first mistake I have made on this car and the good news is Hoosier makes a 275/40/17 Quick Time Pro like you mentioned for the CLK set-up that will fit on my rims. Others told me the same thing on the CLK set-up but the BFG's came highly recommended (chawkins who has a 10 second Weistec E55 and others).
I wanted a set-up ready for the weekend that looked somewhat OEM so here I am...
TBD on the tires and age factor. I had the "age" discussion with the company I purchased them from and he assured me they were stored in proper conditions, etc. The look and "smell" new.
I can guarantee 1 thing: they are going to get heated up real good in the burn-out box tomorrow.

Going out tomorrow. Got the set up installed today. Here are my initial thoughts/observations.
1) They are YUNK! My half bald PSS' seem to hook better.
2) I will be lucky to break a 2.5 60' tomorrow
3) In the pictures (rim on the internet) they look very close to OEM but "not so much" (see attached). Not terrible, but...
This is what happens when you don't listen to what people tell you!
I am actually not that bitter and am laughing as I type.
There is an old saying "it costs money to go to school". I keep flunking with people giving me the answers to the tests...
Report to come tomorrow after they get broke in good and heated up real nice.

First of all nice 911. Second, thanks for the advice.

as or the age issue ask the guy selling them if he will cover any repair costs if the carcass comes apart racing. ever see a tread come apart from the sidewall at 100mph plus? it can wipe out a rear quarter or take out a back window in a millisecond. think carefully
you should grab the sat slot i have for sale and run that car in the half mile. twice as much fun as the 1/4!! french lick indiana oct 15

Back from the strip. Well...
Either the track prep was awesome or the tires are awesome. It was so packed I only had 2 runs.
First Run with a wimpy launch a 1.809 60' and a 11.88 @ 115
Second Run with a very aggressive launch 1.689 60' and a 11.68 @ 116.8 AND a trap IAT of a whopping 173 degrees.
Third run never happened but I am guessing a FULL MASH off idle would have stuck like glue.
Note - I was unable to even do a burnout on the second run in the water box they were so sticky. I am guessing the load on the break stand/supercharger didn't help.
For the price ($279 shipped) I am having trouble not buying a couple more sets. However, given the price of "the good ones" I may see how I do in a few weeks if the weather is cooler. Again, track prep was awesome.

MNM5ETR what's your cooling set up now? Iirc you're running no HE, you only have a KC? Seems like you're definitely having some heat issues, like 210lvr said you might want to look into meth or maybe even a trunk tank if you don't already have one.
Edit: I trapped 115 stock, you should definitely be closer to 120's with your mods unless you're somewhere with crazy elevation
