E63 conversion with heat exchanger.

I have the fabtech performance heat exchanger, it makes the front bumper bow out on the bottom. Fabtech claims the E63 front end conversion will fix this and the heat exchanger will fit behind it just fine without any issues. They are probably full of it because they told me before I bought the H/E that it was direct fit without any modifications needed and that was not true I had to do a bunch of fabrication. Does anyone have the fabtech H/E with the E63 front bumper and does it fit behind the bumper with out any issues? Would like to know before I but the conversion, thanks!

I had to trim the inside of the bumper to make it fit. Even then, it was a VERY tight fit.

thanks for the reply. I had to trim A LOT off the inside of the stock bumper. I had to take it off and on like 10 times and keep trimming stuff. Did you have the same issue? Does the bottom of your new bumper bend or bow down? thanks again.

I had the Fabtech H/E on my stock E55 bumper and it fit like hell. When I switched to the E63 front, it fit much better and now you cannot tell at all.

The bottom of my E55 bumper did bow out. My new E63 bumper does not.

Gentlemen, thank you all for the replies, I appreciate the input! Guess it's time to research an E63 conversion.

Depending on what color your car is, I would suggest leaving the original bumper and paint. You'd have to pay me big bucks to repaint anything on my car, and a repainted bumper will be visible and tacky, jut my .02

Not if you use a decent paint shop

these cars are at 10-14 years old now - factor in paint fade, different paint brands, its just not possible to have a 100% match

Why change out a perfectly good original painted AMG bumper? The car has class, keep it, don't ghetto it out like some guys do

Because some people don't like the original bumper?

Question for you with the conversion. What do you do about the panel covering underneath the engine? I don't see it fitting underneath the lip of the E63 bumper like it does on the stock one. Do you buy a E63 panel, or do you just do without one? thanks again

The guy I've taken everything to (over the last 7 years) has never been off in his color-matching. Red, yellow, blue, grey, pearls - all have been dead on. I'll admit he isn't the cheapest, nor the fastest - but his work has always been dead on.

You can either cut the E55 one down or buy the E63 panel.
