Newbie: Question about buying 2011 E350
I need some recommendation regards to purchasing 2010-2013 E350. I found couple and just wondering what I should look for and watch out for. Thanks.

2008 E350 4Matic, 2011 E350 4matic
Faded wood trim is pretty common on 2010-2013. And 2012+ had the new 302hp direct injection engine, 2010-2011 had the older 268hp engine. I would have preferred to buy a 2012+, but hey the 2011 was cheaper and didn't have the airbag recall. Some 2010-2011's had the airbag recall and they don't even have a replacement for them yet. You have to punch the VIN into MB's website to see if it has the recall or not.

Why a 2011?
There are not many reviews out there about the new engine. I own both a 2002 with the M112 engine (structurally similar to the 2011 M272) and a 2013 E350 with the newer M276 engine. The older engine is a mid 1990's Mercedes 90 degree V8 with two cylinders missing and a balance shaft added to restore the imbalance created by whacking a third off the engine's optimum design. The result is a bit more complexity and rotating mass as well as an uneven firing order that make the engine a bit rougher sounding. Think an industrial sort of GRRRR. It is a great, torquey and efficient engine for it's day.
The much newer M276 revs more freely, has a lot more power on tap more quickly, and makes a sophisticated HMMMMM as you accelerate. It sounds like a nicely balanced engine because, as a 60 degree V6, it is naturally balanced. It uses the latest direct injection technology and can be up to 24% more efficient.
In real world use my newer E Class gets about 4 MPG better mileage (some is attributable to the transmission). I drive the newer one a lot harder because it is simply more fun to wring the newer engine out and it sounds like it enjoys it.
I like the looks of the 2010 & 2011 with the hockey stick. But the newer instrument displays and engine converted me to the 2012-2013. The engine really is a lot better if you are the kind of person who notices that kind of thing.
